Eddie saying that we will have to curb our expectations due to financial fair play. We shouldn't expect an entire new squad next season, and may need to sell to buy all the players we want. I doubt we'll have a net spend of more than 60/70m after sales.
Mate that would be top 7 - we are 4 points off top half atm - 2 decent CB's and a CF and we'll make top half next year.
I hope we finish 15th so the fans will see top 10 as an improvement and all talks of European qualification are curb stomped. We're probably 2/3 years away from European level yet.
Nobody is listening unfortunately and no matter how many times we're told people keep thinking the can spend big money on top players.. It's just not going to happen... They've got to climb the ladder.
I can't see such that myself I think they've scraped their way to 40 points myself.. This side needs hundreds of millions
If anyone is EXPECTING Europe next season they are off their nut! Top 10 should be the aim and a decent run in the cups. Europe is people looking at West Ham and Wolves fighting it out for it this year - one of them is going into the Euro Conference league - and thinking that could be us. Now I can see where that thought process is coming from and there's probably 5 or 6 teams who could nick that 7th spot each season, why not us? All a bit of a moot point atm as the summer is a complete unknown - as fans we have estimates on this board alone between £50m-150m spend - if its near the bottom of that then 10th is a good season if it's near the top why not aim for 7th. Exciting to be even thinking about it though. Summer is going to be an emotional rollercoaster either way.
Mate if Eddie gets a win vs Arsenal or Burnley he'll have got our 2nd most points in the top flight in the last 10 years *Edit - Sorry 16 years* - having taken over from a point of certain relegation and 1 win before Christmas. Few decent signings and we'll be laughing. Loving the reverse psychology
No chance. Wood, for me, was a semi desperate signing, as a sudden need for a striker was required. I can see 2 or 3 Bruno level players and 2 or 3 younger players coming in at first team/squad level. Can also see us pushing for top half and brink of European qualification. The Saudi’s haven’t bought us to take 5 years to not win something.
Can the Victor Mildrew **** for a second please. Yes top 10 is an improvement and yes the owners have said progress will be gradual, but that doesnt mean any slightly optimistic hopes have to be immediately doused. Indeed i really haven't seen or heard anymore making any assumptions of Euro qualification.
Well at least we paid big money for a striker when we were desperate and got one with a good scoring rate. Previously when we've been desperate for strikers we've ended up with Shefki Kuqi and Joselu.
One minute Eddie Howe is telling me we're skint and the next minute the journalists are telling me Newcastle United is buying Brazil.
