http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...clearout-fund-summer-spree.html#ixzz1qMHeN2SP Daily Mail confirms Wengers desire to clearout all our fringe players and use the money to reward the players we have with pay rises and hopefully bring in a couple more signings. The total money saved would be around £23m a year in wages. The players to go will be Arshavin (75k per week), Chamakh (60k), Aluminum (60k), Squishy (50k), Bendy (50k), Denilson (50k), Vela (50k) and Park (40k). We will be rewarding RVP with 120k, Song with 75k and give OXO a new improved contract. I can understand RVP being on an increased contract but Song on 75k and OXO on an increased contract already is a little over the top. Surely Song shouldn't be on more than 60k and OXO should get a rise after next season, but i guess it depends how much.... On a side note, is this based on any proper research or do they get all their information from fan forums......
It makes me a bit sickened how some of these 'footballers' are on over 50k a week. Makes me wish I didn't get injured so much as youngster.. what could've been eh?
You can understand why we get information from newspapers as they are suppose to be trusted sources. I guess im contradicting myself
I'll believe it when I see it -too many false dawns. Out of that list I only really feel sorry for Park and Arshavin. Park hasn't really been given a chance and Arsh has provided us with some fantastic moments. The rest can sling their bloody hooks sharpish - the living embodiment of the mediocrity we've had to put up with for years - get lost!!!
Why is the Ox getting a new contract? he is barely a year into his 4/5 year contract? Least let him perform for 1 or 2 seasons. Maybe thats why we are in this position as we give players pay rises after half a season of good work. Same happened with Jack Wilshire and co.
We don't know the terms of his existing contract. There may have been clauses activated based on, for example, number of appearances. This is the same as has happened with Djourou (allegedly). Wilshere definitely deserved a new contract, as he was still on youth wages. Also, I'd keep Almunia as number 2. At least he has experience. Get rid of the rest, especially the waste of space that was AA.
Here it is on goal.com - http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896...nager-arsene-wenger-planning-summer-clear-out However I am sure it started on a paper which I think was the mail. Cant find it though
Here it is: http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/09042011/58/premier-league-papers-arsenal-set-clear.html From that I quote: "The French tactician has been given the green light to commence an expansive rebuilding programme at the Emirates, with the Russian forward, French left-back and Danish striker all set to be given the chop. Emmanuel Eboue, Tomas Rosicky, Abou Diaby, Denilson and Manuel Almunia also stand to be offloaded in a bid to generate cash to breathe new life into the club. And those replacements? Leighton Baines, Eden Hazard, Manuel Neuer, Phil Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain currently head the list of possible targets. (Daily Mail)" And that was 9th of april 2011. So they posted EXACTLY the same story almost EXACTLY 1 year ago.
Like what Piskie said in an earlier post, "Forums feed rags which feed forums which feed rags . . . ". All they do is look at the situation, listen to what some fans say and just report on it. It's highly probable that this is based on no facts at all. But one thing is obvious, we have tried to ofload a lot of our players but have struggled to. The 3 most glaring examples are Bendtner, Denilson and Vela being placed on loan in the hope of selling them. No one has come in so far and the season is coming to an end!
Ye this story is obvious. Of course we want to sell most those players. Goes without saying. Whether we can or not...now that would make a good story
They don't have to go until the end of their contracts - somebody else will have to match what you are paying now or they will choose to stay.... You'll have as many problems as Man City have trying to offload players on ridiculously high contracts.
so why is that? Are they not good enough? Are no clubs offering enough money - do we expect too much for them? Does the player expect to match or improve on the money in the existing contract? Is the player content to take the money on the contract and take the chance he will be OK when it finishes?
Arsenals policy of paying top dollar for promising youth is fine if the promise is fulilled - If not you are stuck with them. It's not down to Arsenal to close a contract -it's both player and club and if the terms are not equally as good they will refuse. The league is full of forgotten stars on mega money that won't leave their contracts.
It's this and our "pay everyone the same wage" philosophy that isn't working. Players like Chamakah, Densilon etc should never be on wages of 50k+ a week. The fact that NO ONE has come in for Denilson so far just tells you that. Add to the crazy wages that players get nowadays just makes things worse....
100% true. Look at wayne bridge. They cant sell him due to his massive salary. There are many more like that now though. So much waste.
I think that this (these players contracts are too high) is true for a few players, but a lot less than people make out. Arshavin statistically did not have a bad season last year and there is no evidence to show that we tried to sell him. Vela is still very young and Wenger likes him. He is doing well out on loan and I don't think we will have any trouble selling him. Bendtner will have two years to run on his contract and we will have no problem selling him. 50K, which is what people guess he is on, is not a lot for an epl standard striker. Squillacci was a panic buy and went straight into the first team, because we needed a warm body at the time. He hasn't worked out but we just didn't have anyone else to play, he is paid a minimum for a first team player and I bet we needed to pay him that to get him to move. The ones that look the worst are the ones like Denilson, and Almunia that are on a fairly high salary because they played quite a lot of games for the first team, but seemed to get worse. These guys are on a "First team" salary but aren't good enough any more. I can see how it happenned, but I really can't say how it might have been avoided.
