I'm not trying to say Suarez isn't good, I just think it's a bit naive to suggest he's only making these headlines because he's an outstanding player ignoring the fact that he always does something that makes the headline writers have an easy job, be it "that" Evra incident and then the whole fallout that followed (like the handshake thing or the T-shirts for example), the Stoke dive or the a handball goal (which happened while some people were still talking about his attempted handball against Southampton)... you get the idea, he makes it east for lazy journalists to write about because they don't have to look far for a story.
Yeah I agree. But the stories would be non-starters if it was just your average PL player. Yeah he brings a lot on himself but he loves it. The boo's tomorrow will only spur him on
I do think he loves it to be honest, I watched a lot of him when he played for Ajax and I usually wanted to punch him then and I had no ties to either of the teams I was watching!
This. There are players who dive, players who stamp, players who use their hands, players who attack opponents, players who say the wrong thing, players who make gestures to the crowd and players who make inflammatory statements. There's only one player who does all that. They almost certainly wouldn't get the same amount of attention, but I don't think they'd be non starters if he was just any player. To my mind there are three reasons he gets so much attention: 1. He's a good player - there's nothing the media love more than going on about how there's 'two sides' to a player. Must be one of their favourite cliches. 2. He can't help giving them more ammunition and such a wide variety of it. Like I said above, he may not be the worst offender in football history, but he certainly has one of the most diverse rap sheets! He's also like a kid with ADHD - seems like every time the furore dies down he's doing something else to get attention. 3. The response of fans, particularly Liverpool fans, to everything that's written about him. This forum sums it up perfectly - pretty much every article written about the Suarez handball has its own thread on the LFC board, complete with links, and all the articles get loads of comments and attention. That's gold dust to journos, particularly from the **** rags - they'll keep writing ****e about Suarez as long as so many LFC fans keep hanging on their every word.
I think the cheat is unusual in possessing all the possible negatives of a football player. All rolled into one and that is why he is picked on by the media and the non scouser fans. I can understand why the miserable scouser fans turn a blind eye to his faults. After all he represents their best chance of getting to become a big team for a long time. But ironically BECAUSE we know that the scousers get upset with all the targeting of the cheat we and other fans pile it on.
Also true. I loved this interview by Comolli: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20977131 Don't be mean to Suarez or you might drive him out of English football. So what the **** does he think 99% of all Utd, Chelsea, Everton, Arsenal and non Liverpool fans will do from now on? Be mean to Suarez in the hope we can get rid of the ****er and really piss the scousers off
And deprive them of the only 'good' (ability wise) player the scousers got. seriously though, he is a very bad example to kids and therefore has NO place in English football
You know perfectly well what point he's making, think back to Ronaldo, Cantona? You're usually a decent level headed poster but just recently your Manc bullshit is ruining your head Suarez is a world class player and you know it, best player we have had in years when on form Lets hope for a good game tom and lets hope the best team on the day win, as long as it isnt you . I just hope we attack you because like yourselves, we have a good attack, as long AS WE FINISH OUR CHANCES! I think we can dominate centrally in midfield, be tight at the back and creative and POSS lethal upfront! Best fixture on the calendar, enjoy Peace, DR 4 Arms
I know the point he's making, but are you so blinded that you can't see the point I'm making? As long as people from Liverpool put the focus on Suarez, so the media and other fans will do the same. If you all stop biting on every negative, or even perceived negative, comment made about him (as you have just done) then the focus will move away from Suarez. In fact, if you look at Ronaldo and Cantona, it was precisely when Utd fans, the players, and the club themselves stopped caring about the opinions of journalists and other fans and just focused on themselves and their own business that both players became great. Time will tell if Liverpool and Liverpool fans are actually able to do the same. Also hoping for a good game tomorrow - has the potential to be very open with both sides scoring plenty recently but also shipping a few at the back. Fingers crossed for a classic, and no whining on either side!
I'd not read the rest of the thread to be fair but fair enough, I know what you're saying but in my opinion he is being unfairly targeted by the media. Dont get me wrong, I wince when a LFC player goes down and it isnt a foul, Drogba used to get on my tits and its not the way I play football but, anything he does is high lightened with a big pen! Once we click, and I have faith we will, other players are going to be chipping in more. Suarez will take some beating though, his energy, skill, desire and willingness are truly superb for us and like i say, the best i've seen in a LFC shirt for some time I love Utd V us, enjoy, and like you say hope there isnt any whining. We're due a win at Old Trafford , have a good un
I cannot see how the cheat can even be compared to Ronaldo and Cantona. The latter made key contributions to the team/club winning titles. What's the best that he has done for the scousers? Win the carling cup? Seventh place? Typical big fish in a small pond syndrome. If he were playing for a bigger and better club like arsenal or the Chavs, he will not stand out as much. As for the scousers fans taking a more detached view, that's not going to happen because they are not clever enough. To realise that the more they react the more people will target him
Prick You're are an embarressment to decent Utd posters. Do we not know we havent won the title? Check out |Champions League history Christian....... I have a good job and family, hardly thick is it? See you tomorrow twat
I have obviously got to you, you f**king ******ed scouser c*nt. If you don't like United fans comments on the cheat on this board, you do not have to come here. So f*ck off
not really mate, people respect me here on united board, its only the scouser's who can't take me because they can't stand the truth about their team
You're assuming the media cares about fairness. All they care about is getting people to read their article and listen to what they say. Which is ultimately what everyone does when they write about Suarez, mostly outraged LFC fans spreading the articles around the internet and getting people to visit them. As I said to Sky, that's just gravy for most tabloid journos. As long as you guys keep hanging on their every word they will keep writing about him and spinning the story out over and over again. They have done the same with plenty of players at many clubs over the years, until fans of those clubs accepted the media won't be fair and just ignored them. The sooner you guys work that out, the less painful it will be for you.
good post It's not as simple as that but the idea is there Even if we yawned and ignored the journos, there is more than enough feedback and appetite from people who like anti-Liverpool banter to keep them doing it indefinitely
