Just out of interest I thought these stats maybe of useful:

Shane Long played 200 games and scored 54 times. (£7 million)
Nicky Maynard played 167 games and scored 73 times.(£5 million Plus)
Matty Fryatt played 300 games and scored 102 times (sold for £1.2 million)

    QED...enough said.:)

Shane Long has only played in the prem and championship and is a ROI international
Maynard is injury prone and only has scored goals for 1 season
Fryatt has scored most of his goals in league 1. With around 60-70 coming from League 1

The thing that i like about Maynard he has the ability to score a goal from anywhere when nothing is on. While Long is more of a hardworking striker. But both get goals and with Maynard's injuries Long may be a safer bet. It wouldnt surprise me know if something happens with Maynard now both him and Bristol know we have made our move after Long

When you consider that Long played some of those games in the Prem and Maynard in League 1 then those stats can be mis-leading. If you look at their Championship record, both got around 10 goals a season then had one boom season where they got 20+.

I think Maynard is more able to create something from nothing and I'm not sure how much Long relied on the excellent service from the likes of Kebe and McAnuff for his goals whereas maynard won't have had as good service at Bristol City but still managed to score more goals in less games. That said, I think Sven has given up on Maynard and is moving on to target number 2. Either that or he's trying to hurry Bristol City up. I'd prefer Maynard but I certainly wouldn't be unhappy if Long was lining up in blue at the Ricoh on Saturday.

Also if we get Long that may mean Waghorn stays and gets a chance.

But is Shane Long just a more expensive version of David Nugent

I think Long is a better version of David Nugent (not sure he's £7 million better though). They're very similar players but I think Long's got a touch more pace and holds the ball and links play better than Nugent which is what you want from a lone striker.

On Waggy, I think he'll leave as soon as another striker is signed because he'll want to play games and Sven when asked about whether he would consider selling him on the Football Forum said 'Not yet'. Shame but I think a move might be best for all parties. It might also help to heal the hole on our pocket from the Long deal.

Not really SF, what leagus were the goals scored in? 35 of Mattys were in LG1??? for me Shane Long goal collection is mainly prem/champ, whereas the other 2 havent tasted that level.

    Can't argue with this <ok>

I think in terms of goalscoring they are pretty similar, I just for once would like a striker who can make something out of nothing and excite us(I know Yakubu did that for a short while when he was here but I'm sure everyone knows what my gripe with him is) Maynard would have fitted that role, I'm not sure Long does.

I'll be glad if Long comes though, the other strikers we are being linked to now I don't want at all. If he does come I suspect it's more likely he will line up against Reading ironically.

Yes, glad somebody put this into perspective. At the end of the day, Fryatt looked average in the Championship and Long looked decent in the Premiership.
