With our apparent striker injury crisis (Berba, Hernandez and Owen injured; Welbeck injury prone) and Macheda and Diouf's inability to step up who thinks Fergie might bring in a striker in January on a short term loan? Like he did with Larsson. I would gladly have Thierry, despite his Gooner past...
The striker issue will not be for long enough to make it worthwile, by the january window at least one if not all of them will probably be within a week or two of fitness. Not really worth the bother for about two games especially if Welbeck (fingers crossed) manages to make it a month in one piece. Also there is a miminal chance of a midfielder. We know we've needed one for two years, but Fergie seems to have a bizzare amount of faith in the players we already have (despite the them being ****)
I'm not so sure, although Carrick has finally started to show signs of his form improving he has still been well below par for quite a while, Anderson has yet another injury and Fergie finally seems to have given up on Gibson (thank god). Morrison and Pogba both look like real talents but neither are ready to be thrown into the first team yet, so I wouldn't be surprised if Fergie at least attempts to snap up a center midfielder, the interest in players like Sneijder and Hazard in the summer shows that he has been looking.
Aye, I'm almost (almost) hoping that we do lose to Basel tonight, that way the whole cup tied in Europe thing wouldn't really be an issue any more and we could make some decent signings. Going out of the CL early in 05/06 was a godsend for us in a way as it freed us up to bring in Vidic and Evra in Jan 06 and win the next three PLs and the EC.
Utd should go for Tevez. That would be an interesting return and let's face it he would walk.into your team these days.
Well you got what you wanted are you happy now? 20 million lost due to missing out on the next CL stage. You still reckon Fergie will be able to sign players in January since that 20 millions gone? After all you don't get much value in January...
£20 million? Don't believe everything you read! We'd have earned an extra £20 million if we'd won the thing, but what were the chances of that?! We could maybe have earned an extra £10 million for reaching the semi finals if we got a decent draw, but then we could earn another £5 million from reaching the semis of the EL given how the market pool is divided up - City and Liverpool got 4 million Euros apiece last year and we've got a much bigger media appeal than both of them. And not much value in January? Vidic and Evra for about £6 million each? Yeah, they were way overpriced As long as you aren't buying out of sheer desperation (see Chelsea, Liverpool and City last year) you can get a great deal, as the top clubs don't want to buy anyone who's cup tied for the latter games. And the lack of CL football isn't even an issue, as any decent players willing to move in January would be cup tied in Europe anyway.
Why would a great player sign for United in January when they know they can't play Champions League football this year?
