The cuts are necessary because previous levels of spending and previous pension systems are unsustainable. I agree that the cuts are at the wrong end of the scale and they should be spread out from top down to minimise the impact on the bottom levels and frontline services, but they are still necessary at all levels.
I don't think anyone disputes the cuts its the measure of cuts that the bottom levels that is the problem, i doubt we would be having this conversation if the cuts where evenly spread.
That was my point. It is completely pointless to have the cuts at the bottom end of the scale when the top execs are earning massive salaries and bonuses. The NI Regional Development minister has just approved a 20000 pay rise for the head of NI Water for **** sake.
Ah don't start that ****e again. We have already determined that the money spent in Iraq and Afghanistan should be spent on our own economy.
start what ****? it was an honest response to your post do you not think that is the reason for the increased borrowing and greater austerity measures? and that the possibility of pension funds etc being used for the wars is unreasonable?
They shouldn't, but this dumb **** was merely highlighting that a one day strike will do precisely **** all. I should know as I did use to work in local government and had to strike twice a few years back as the Labour government dared to suggest we not have our pensions paid by the rest of the workers of Britain. Nobody noticed we had not gone into work. There are loads of low paid local government workers but conversely there are also loads who do literally **** all. It is those I have zero sympathy for. I now work in the private sector and enjoy doing just that, working my nuts off for my living. I get paid **** loads more but then a lot of that goes into a pension I have to fund myself. I also get 12 days a year less holiday with no option of flexi time extras.
Im going out on strike on the 30th. Public sector worker, low paid, no pay rise for over two years. Expected to work to 67 or more before i can retire, pay more into but get a lot less less out of my pension scheme, which contrary to popular belief is not great. Most of the begrudgers on here probably dont work. Dont worry it probably wont effect your dole.
