Now the hangovers cleared, trying to digest all the rumours about who is coming and going, and as usual, no one knows anything really, they just think they do. I think we can assume we will have a manager, a very good back 4 with excellent stand ins right across the line, and a great goal keeper, possibly with an equally great one in the wings. So far so good.We also have Bruma and Van Aarnholt. We will have Ramires, Mata, Lampard ( maybe) Mikel, Romeu, Josh, Lukaku ( may go on loan) Torres, Sturridge, Bertrand and Kalou. We may lose Hilario, Turnbull, Ferreira, Boswinga, Merierles, Malouda, and of course Drogba is gone. This list may not be 100% accurate, but it will be reasonably close. In will come some very good players, All in all we should have a younger, more skilful, and possibly better squad than this year. Our current players ALL now fight like crazy for our club, and it is hoped the new ones will do likewise. That is the managers job, and why I personally hope RDM is given the opportunity. Now it's interesting that not a single Club from any European country won all the competitions they were eligible for.Only ONE PL club made the semis of the CL. The point being that in todays' football climate, it is virtually impossible to win everything ............so should we go for everything ?? I am of the opinion we should target top 4 as priority, CL as second, FA as 3rd and Carling as 4th. By target I mean use our squad to better effect, play fringe players more often in the FA and Carling, ease the work load from the top team once it is settled, and avoid the fixture crush like this year, with tiredness and injury severely restricting our push for top 4. No disgrace there in my opinion, and a more pragmatic way to go. Love to hear yours.
Kalou is being released. Probably to go back to Feyenoord so at least we wont have to see him playing for the spuds or liverpool, and Bruma has said he is staying in Hamburg, either permanently or on loan again.
OK that news hasn't reached Melbourne yet !!!!! Sorry to see him go. Plenty don't rate him, and I was one, but he improved heaps under RDM and I think was playing reasonably well given the mid field behind him. That is our real problem. So what do you think about trying to win everything or selecting which ones to go for ??
CP, you know my feelings on Kalou & I can't see that he has improved under RDM but it's all about opinions isn't it? The one thing I've seen that's a bit worrying is reports about Malouda signing a new deal. I'd actually rather see Kalou stay than him but it looks like Kalou is to be released!
Yeah that worried me too when I read about Malouda... why keep a player who has always relied on his ability to beat the last man when he can't do that anymore? On top of that, it seems such a shame that we didn't implement actions earlier, i.e. bringing the young blood into the team, but when the likes of Drogba, Lamps, Terry, Malouda, Essien et al were at the top of their game... I have to admit that if I were a Chelsea youth squad member now I would be hoping that Drogs will come back in a couple of years to coach!
Reports have it that Robbie does not want a 12 month rolling contract, so that means unless the club are prepared to make him a better offer,we'll have a new bloke in charge! I guess he will want some say in who comes/goes!
Then give him a 2-3 year deal. If it doesn't work out Roman will sack him regardless anyway. Is it just me that doesn't really get the Pep thing? He's done well but come on, look at the team he inherited and the 30 million pound plus players they are constantly buying. The person most responsible for Barca's success is Cruyff.
We can't do that though. From now Onwards FFP counts. It cost us £20m to sack Carlo and hire/fire AVB Said it before the finals and I'll say it again RDM won't be in charge next season whether we like it or not
No it isn't, I don't get it either. As far as I'm aware he's done little other than at Barcelona, and then only with a team of superstars. We saw what Avram Grant could do with superstars, so to me that doesn't means too much. Not saying Pep isn't good, just , how can you tell? 2 other problems. Firstly in Peps case, he won't have his superstars, because we can no longer afford them, or claim we won't spend to buy them, and secondly, he has no experience in the PL, which has been a bridge too far for all but Jose. For me this also rules out Capello who was useless at getting his PL players to perform, and in my opinion an abject failure. If not Robbie, then for me Brendon Rogers. Young , talented, strong disciplinarian, plays attractive football, a true rising star. Time to think outside the box and shun the big namers. They have all failed miserably at Chelsea, and we could have had Christian Ronaldo and Messi for the money we have wasted on the owners Managers.
Yeah he did, but still with the remnants of someone else's' team. Our owner seems unwilling to let any manager actually dismantle the team and rebuild, despite hiring them to do just that. We'll never know how good Carlo or AVB might have been. Now we have won the CL, lets hope RA can chill out and let the manager manage. Not holding my breath.
