Time to get real, anyone going to last night's match expecting a full-blooded cup-tie with a strong R's team going all-out for a big win was living in cloud cuckoo land. The main target for this season is to stay up and any distractions such as the two cup competitions will be given short shrift. It's no surprise that Norwich 'inexplicably' lost 4-0 at home to a League One side or Swansea 'surprisingly' lost 3-1 to a League Two side. I commented yesterday that Rochdale at 11/2 was a tempting bet, my only regret is I didn't put them in a treble with MK Dons and Shrewsbury. The bottom line is the League Cup is a competition that the big clubs use to keep squads ticking over and the 'lesser' PL clubs really aren't committed to unless they are comfortably mid-table when it can provide a Wembley opportunity. Birmingham were comfortable when they won it last season and look what happened to them! The crowd last night, 4,755 tells you all you need to know about this devalued competition so please stop whingeing about something that was entirely predictable.
I agree and I for one am Mr Positive however I really do agree that this was a missed opportunity to compound a winning spirit ... its over now finished and we move on. I know what you mean and add my support to this thread
Glad I wasn't one of the 4,755. This result is only acceptable if we get a result at Wigan... We then don't have a game for 2 weeks so If we get turned over sats then this would've been a missed opportunity imo.
Worrying thing is, our team wasnt that bad! ****tu, Both, Taarbs (Who looks like hes had a few too many summer bbq's), Connolly, Ephraim and Orr all played last night and would all be in contention for a starting place on Saturday. It was embarrassing.
Well, if that's the case why do we have any supporters going? A complete waste of time and money. Also, it's unfair to lob all of the non first XI together as they look worse cos they don't have any quality on the pitch. Defo no way backfir ****tu, rowlands, cook etc
Have to agree with op, just a shame that our (largely) second string aren't league 1 standard. Bottom line is we are fit and ready for Saturday - Orr, hopefully, included. Bruno wossissname and, perhaps Harriman were the positives from last night.
Yes we must move on but everyone is entitled to an opinion and those that paid to watch that shambles and then see the disappointment on their kids faces when we capitulated have every right to whinge. Remember what it was like when you were at school getting stick from the supporters of every other team in London, Manchester or bloody merseyside, or even Luton in my case
tbh it was quite fun in the crowd, good craic, even when we're losing they could never sing at us because they're 2 leagues below
I was sat at the game yesterday and there was a bloke two seats from me who would not stop going on. He sounded as if this was THE game that was to determine our fate in the Premiership... if we're relegated we're sent right down to the conference. I felt like turning to him and shouting RELAX! Complaining sod!
You should be ashamed of yourself and Sooperhoop too. I can't believe what I'm reading on a Queens Park Rangers Fans Forum. Beggars belief.
Was it really predictable? I was expecting a side containing Murphy, Orr, Connolly, ****ts, taarbs and bothroyd to turn over a league 2 side at home.
Absolutely 12thman, on paper the team selected had more than enough quality to turn the likes of Rochdale over. But with Warnock making it clear before the game that this was little more than a practice match the attitude was all wrong. I wouldn't go as far as saying the game was thrown but for the 2nd season running NW has made it plain that progressing in this competition would actually not be in the best interests of the club. Sooperhoop: did you actually go to the game last night? If not I can't beleive you have the nerve to go round telling those who did get mugged not to complain.
No, I didn't go for the very reasons I mention. If the match ticket was £30? add on travel and a pie and pint and you're looking at the thick end of £50 to watch a charade. If those who did go didn't realise this was what they were gonna see they should look at our cup record over the last 10 years. Results elsewhere underline my point. Sorry if stating the bleedin' obvious upsets people!
