:laugh:Warm Pouch, that comment makes up for the clanger you wrote earlier: "I would have Lescott over Terry as he isn't so rash". Possibly the least informed football statement of the year although my mother once asked if David Beckham plays for Newcastle and who Alan Shearer was <doh>

Your ma obviously isn't very well informed but I agree with Pouch, in fact I'd probably have Bramble ahead of Terry.

Ah come on Alfie, you'd seriously have Titus over the current England captain who has almost 100 caps and has won numerous trophies and personal accolades? He may not be everybody's cup of tea and he isn't quite at the level he was a few years back but he is still twice the player of Lescott, who in turn is twice the player of Bramble.

And yes my mother knows nothing about football, she used to try and ban it from the TV before I moved out and now I have she has probably succeeded!

Each to their own. See by the same token I could say you know absolutely **** all about football for saying the opposite, and clearly haven't been watching Man City or England in the last three years. But I just choose to see it as a difference of opinion and don't have such a high opinion I think I'm always right. Just say you disagree man.

Oh yeah I wouldn't disagree that Terry has been poor for England at times, particularly in SA when Germany scored that ridiculous goal from a goal kick; poor Matty Upson got slated after that but it wasn't him out of position! But Joleon Lescott?! Really?! He was excellent for Everton but hasn't got near to reaching that level at Man City (yet). John Terry has captained the Chelsea for nearly 10 years now and in that time he has won several league winners medals, FA cups, reached a CL final...I mean how can you even compare the two? Thats like comparing Les Ferdinand with Shearer - an excellent club player who has represented his country a few times with an absolute giant of the game. I didn't mean to sound like a d*** before, I'm sorry, but it's not like it's just my opinion is it? What about all the coaches, pundits/former players and journalists who clearly think Terry is better, it's not like I'm on my own on this :)

As I said I wouldn't be too down on Terry because he has been first class this season for Chelski. It was just last year I thought he looked on the wane. Honestly Lescott is immense for Man City. Kolo Toure can't get a look in, Boateng had to **** back off to Germany. My problem with Terry is, and the Germans exposed it, he is very easy to drag out of a defence. Now I'd pick him when Ferdinand is fit but I've given up on him. Reason being Rio's reading of the game and pace meant they had balance. Terry is a centre half who likes to attack the ball, and the Germans realised Upson is the same. They had the perfect nuisance in Klose to expose this fraility. I like Lescott. he wouldn't be my first pick but I'd have him in there on versatilty. As I say Jagielka and Cahill would be my pick. There would be no comparison between Terry and Lescott when looking at career achievements. Terry has done it all just about. I just personally don't think he's ever been great internationally except when Rio played to bail him out. I felt the same at Chelsea about Carvalho, so maybe its more about the balancing of defence. I think Terry needs pace alongside to function. The likes of Lescott/Cahill/Jagielka just seem to play very well regardless.

Further down the line I think a pairing of Cahill and Jones will be the job, although I rate Saylor high enough to push Cahill very close. I take no real offence by the way, just like to keep it civil.

Kolo Toure only returned from his ban a few weeks ago and has been drafted straight back in hasn't he? Last few times I've watched them it's been Kompany and Toure but then again I don't follow City particularly closely so can't claim to be an expert.

Anyway, I agree with you that Terry needs pace around him, but I think it's more about having a balanced unit at the back, the reason Saylor and Colo compliment each other well is exactly the same as how Terry and Carvalho were together - Terry/Saylor attacks first ball, Carvalho/Colo mops up. But, how would you then explain Alex and Terry's partnership (2 very similar defenders)? I personally thought Terry's lack of form last year was in direct correlation with Alex's absence through injury, no?

You could also say that Bolton have struggled since Zat Knight was dropped and that Cahill isn't the same without him?

I think at the end of the day, this just highlights that it's all about collective strength rather individual strength.

Not sure I think Lescott may be an ever present this year? Certainly played the last two against Blackburn and Everton, was superb in both. Kompany immense too. I think as good as Toure is, he'll have a job on his hands now because they have been impressive all over the pitch (David Silva/Aguero in particular).

Would defo agree about collective strength and getting the balance right. Saylor and Colo is something special for me. I know everyone is to thank but what I now term as the triangle of giveyoufuckall is the main reason. Krul/Saylor/Colo have just been awesome. So good that the rock Tiote was able to finish off the pre season he missed in the first 4 games!

Not sure on Alex/Terry, but I suppose Alex isn't slow. He's also more of a reader than an attack the ball centre back for all he looks like he's straight out of a Brazilian prison or cage fighting camp!

I find it pretty annoying when people say we havent been tested. When the times right you always hear "theres no easy game in the premier league" then when it fits we haven't been tested. Every team in the premier league is a test and last season the games we've won so far were the ones we were loosing.

Re. Taylor / Cahill .. I would put him in the squad but Cahill has "been tested" so far in the premier league and doesn't look to have done particularly well.

To be fair wizard, for a club like ours any away game is difficult, as is Arsenal at home. So a good start in my eyes no bad results yet.
