Released by Newcastle after turning down a one year contract and now in talks with Rangers and 2 Turkish clubs. I think he would he would be a great signing for us on a similar type of contract we had Richard Dunne on due to his past injury problems. He is a leader and definitely of the right sort. Perfect replacement for Clint and foil for Grant Hall.
Seems to have been around for years and on his day, he was a good player. Not sure how old he is but I thought we had passed the stage of signing 30 somethings desperate for a last pay day.
He's made 215 appearances for Newcastle in 13 years averaging 16.5 a season. He's made only 27 in the last 3 which would suggest that he's very injury prone.
He was. Good that is. Once upon a time. Just like Ferdinand, Ferdinand, Hoilett, Samba, Granero, Asso-Ekotto, Krancjar, O'Neill, Barton, Onuoha and Wright-Phillips - the biggest disappointment of all considering the miniscule size of the guy. Not to mention Fer who apparently shone at some point in his glittering career "because, because, well he must have, he played for Holland in their World Cup semi final team" In fact apart from the guy whose name escapes me now who used to play for Blackburn then Spurs before playing for us for a few months until his appointment as a manager in Canada, they were all not how they had been described on the tin. Apart from that I have nothing bad to say about the guy.
Let me be clear because a couple of folks seem to be under the same misapprehension: neither Yorkshire Hoopster nor myself were suggesting that we should re-sign Ryan Nelsen. Yorkshire just said that Ryan was one of the few older signings who had proved good value but he couldn't remember his name. I merely supplied the name. I am a fully paid up member of the "yoof is good" movement.
I think he meant he'd rather have Clint Hill one more year instead of Steven Taylor. Which I tend to agree with.
Aah, yes, that makes sense... and I'd also agree with him. Hopefully, we can find someone younger and better than both of them.
Yes I did I'd rather have Clint now than Steve Taylor now Ryan did well for us I'd like him as he was then - now Paul Parker was the best centre back marker we ever had !!! He could mark quality like Ian Rush out of a game I used to bet on him scoring first goal every game - 33/1 I never won I did win the one time Rob Hulse scored first with his knee from 1 yard out
