I don't need backed up, what your basically saying, is that me having a view that differs from your is tantamount to me saying your opinion is invalid. That's not the case at all, i come on here to debate with people, sometimes i agree, sometimes i don't, but i come on cos i like reading other peoples opinions, and i like to share and debate my own. Your opinion, Bruce doing great, my opinion, questions need answered. Where's the problem?
You know mate this super sensitive moderator thing is becoming boring, why do you and other bring up the moderator title? We are football fans talking about football, agree with us or not but nothing to do with being moderators.
Believe me mate, i read everyone's opinions, i consider them, i put my 50p worth in and we debate. I'm not suggesting i'm always right, and i'm not suggesting i'm the oracle on Sunderland Association Football Club. What i am, is a passionate fan with strong opinions and ideas on our club, it's present and it's future, i'm sure you're exactly the same, and i'm sure we'll have conflicting opinions some time again in the future. Facts are, that's how it should be, i guarantee we wear different clothes, listen todifferent music and watch different tv as well, that's what keeps life interesting!
I fel this is becoming personal and silly now mate. My super mod title is nothing to do with any of this so why go on about it, I am a Sunderland fan talking about Sunderland, its what this forum is about. No need to cut and paste, you reply with quote and my ffs was because I was and am becoming increasingly exasperated with the whole thing. I dont agree with you because I have a differing opinion, is that so hard to follow?
Ah wasnt on about you but you should learn when n when not to use ya powers. Was talkin to BB. Bb i know what your saying about the squad but my point is that Bents value to the team was massive and these types are not replaceable. Thats why no matter how strong Bruces squad is without Bent its ordinary-as recent form shows. He bought him as the hub of the team thats why he costs so much. You wont get similar goal ratio next season from your new striker unless you pay more than ã25 million. Analysing his buys i think he has bought moderatley apart from Bent and possibly Gyan
You were talking to me? About modding? I've modded 2!! things in 4 months, how am i 'using my powers' then? On your point, i agree Bent will be very difficult to replace, but that doesn't hide the fact that 11 without a win was unacceptable. Remember, we went 14 without a win last season. Bent played ALL of those games.
look imo Syd, posting "ffs" is not a response worth posting in my opinion. Why not, "can we agree to disagree", ends things in a positive way, "ffs" is like a red rag. BruceysBeak - surely you have to look at the net spend, which must be far less. By the way, I was born in bred in Deepdene Road, so we are probably both mor types!! I do not think Bruce has done a great job, I just don't think the Bent sale and the full consequences behind it has been considered - as this season unravels, I'm honestly at a loss as to whether one player can replace him and where we go from here.
look Syd, you have messed with my mind, I'm saying IMO all the feckin time now, twice in one sentence.
Seaburn lad eh! Why didn't you say so! Ambleside Terrace mate! The net spend of course is peanuts, but that doesn't mean Bruce hasn't brought in ã50million's worth of players, who should be good enough to compete without Bent, that's the point i'm bringing in here. I'll be delighted if Bruce gets it right, because i like the fella, but obviously my faith in him has taken a battering these last few weeks.
top of Dykelands Road, know it well, was my favoured route walking to the train station, you go to the Monkey House then? You would like to think the team would have been good enough to compete without Bent, however recent events prove otherwise - and - apologies for mentioning it again - it is just Don Hutchison all over again. He has to rely on youth now, next team should be interesting. I just expect the worst each season, I'm just a glass knocked on to the floor and trod into a thousand pieces type of guy(as opposed to glass half empty)
Why, when discussing B€nt, is there any need to dream up a consipracy involving one or more of SB, NQ or ES? Of course none of us are ITK, but the simplest explanation seems to be the one given - that Villa tapped up B€nt, Judas then asked for a transfer, and we decided we couldn't keep an unhappy player. Even B€nt has never said he was forced out of the Club, he's said it was his decision to go to Villa. We can disagree on how important he was for us, and about if we could have got a replacement, but to me it seems clear why he went. I'm sure SAF would still like Cristiano Ronaldo in his team, but as the player was determined to go he had to sell.
Fair play on that one but how much have you got back in transfers since he took over. Some good deals there, then some utterly shocking ones.
I do wonder if in seasons to come people will say '****socks, don't sell our best striker, look what happened to Sunderland.' PS: are we all friends again?
I think what is missing from these figures is just how much of this money we have recouped from players sold during Bruce's time here.
With hindsight it appears Bent was "agitating" for a move/more money since last Summer.Should the club should have caved in to his demands? I don't think so.What's not in doubt ,however,is that the dip in his performances, prior to his departure to Villa in the January window was a matter of heated debate on 606. His partnership with Gyan wasn't working at any level.Would he have continued to sulk or played his heart out for a move this Summer had the club refused his request for a transfer? My view is that Bent had no intention of staying beyond January for anybody to find out.Look how quickly he parked his butt in a Bermingham hotel.Do MCallister and Bent share the same Agent ? If correct was his speedy move to Villa a coincidence.No. It's history now and the question of SB future needs to be discussed. He has proved himself very capable but is unproven at the higher level we we appear to aspire to.Can he do it? Will the club pay wages sufficient to keep players of Bents standard happy. After two years have we even the core of a quality side assembled. Stability is essential to continued success. it's along road ahead.KTF.
Funny thing is, we are still just finding our feet in this league, and we have basically had 2 teams in 5 years, keane`s team, then bruce`s team (bruce still has some of keane`s buys). Everton, Villa, Spurs, even Bolton/Wigan/West ham have been in the PL a lot longer than us, with pretty settled sides, we havnt really had that. We also have the youngest squad in the PL as well, which can have its own pitfalls, when the going gets tough, they tend to hide, but its all a learning curve for all of them. I think we all got carried away from the good start we had, I also think the run of games we had for our loosing streak was a bloody hard run, and by the time we played Brum and WBA the confidence was already at the lowest point (from the defeats against pool/man city etc). I personally think we should keep bruce, we dont really want or need another clearout, and next year will be his 3rd year, and more importantly, the 3rd year most of the team (young team) have been together, and like i said, they are learning all the time.
He does need to build his own squad, but most of the squad is his now. He has spent more than ã50 million and for me the money he has made by selling players is for me irrelevant. He has still spent a lot of money and with that in mind he should be achieving more than what he currently is and has. I think he should be given one more year to actually have a good consistent season.
