Rumours are that we (along with the usual rabble of Championship clubs) are interested in signing Stephen Quinn from Sheffield United.
Having spent three years living in Sheffield and watching a few Blades matches I have to say the guy is pretty handy, although when they got relegated he was particularly woeful and a took a lot of flack from the supporters for being so dire, which I assume was because he was/is viewed as one of their best players. He would certainly do a job for us as a box to box midfielder, akin to a left fooded Leadbitter with a bit more mobility and creativity so I would be happy to see him come to play for us, after all he is only 26 and maybe his older brother Alan (who Jim signed a few years back) can persuade him.... or not as the case may be

Comparing him to Leadbitter is definately not going to make me get excited. I think he is highly rated but has never impressed in the few games I have seen him in.

Whenever I've seen him play I thought him better than his brother(not that that means much!!)

This guy is actually pretty good. He would certainly be an asset to have in the squad, he can do a job in the centre and on the left of midfield, plus he is not going to be too expensive. He has good energy and can pick a pass, if the Leadbitter analogy has scared you then maybe more to the likes of Colback (with them both being Ginger) as he is a bit more positive than our former great leader

There is not one player in the Sheffield United squad who would be an improvement to our side.

Move along please, there's nothing to see here.

Matt Lowton & Harry Maguire I would have at Ipswich in a heartbeat. Exactly the sort of players we SHOULD be looking at, although I would imagine we would be priced out of signing Lowton given how impressive he has been all season

That may be the case but Maguire and Lowton in particular will go to bigger and better things I have no doubt about that, and there will be town fans on here moaning that we hadn't thrown our hat into the ring and tried to sign them, Lowton in particular I wxpect to be playing in the Championship next season and doing pretty well for himself

Oh, because we are inundated all of a sudden with Right Backs, **** the bed... what was I thinking?... maybe it's making up for all the seasons we haven't had one. But everyone (except myself) doesn't consider Edwards a right back, plus he is clearly only going to be here one more season and Hewitt is 18 and currently injured. Oh and Lowton can also do a shift at CB or RM, a bit like that Ward fella we were reportly linked with a week or two ago <ok>

I have to agree with you King <ok> I have seen Lowton a few times and he would be a great addition and at least we can offer him a step up!

That's a pretty bold statement considering the weaknesses in your team.

Apparently there's reports in Sheffield that we're not interested in him. Sounds like it could be a decent signing, but for £500k, we could do a lot better in my opinion.

lowton and mcguire are both excellent young players. not sure what yorkie is banging on about - he's clearly never watched either of them! stephen quinn however... he's ok. lower half championship standard, so he'd fit in nicely ;)

None of them will set the world alight, especially not Quinn. i've seen four or five Sheffield United games this season but admittedly only really taken notice in the three play off games but didn't see any moment where i thought I'd like to sign anyone. My attention had already been drawn to Lowton so I was looking forward to seeing what all the fuss was about... and... not much.

Micky Stockwell, Mauricio Tarricco, Mick Mills, George Burley - that's where the bar is set.

As for Stephen Quinn, obviously known about him a lot longer and we really don't need to sign an unremarkable midfielder with the talent we already have in that position.

no offence yorkie, but you aren't going to sign players who can 'set the world alight'! you need good players who will improve your current team. i always wondered if you still live in the early 80s - you've given me the answer and its a resounding yes. ipswich aren't very good at the moment, you need players who can do a job for your current side, not one 30 years ago.

ps. agree about quinn though <ok>

I disagree that we can't find talented players to sign. But anyway, we need a goalkeeper, centre backs and strikers. If we're signing players in positions we already have good players in then they need to stand out.
