I have always liked McPhail and he is a quality player, many on here slagged him off but it appears he is now winning his critics over again.
It's good to see him getting more game time and I hope his illness does not stop him pulling the shirt on in the future.

We need a fully fit McPhail. With him in the team we seem to be altogether calmer in the midfield and pass the ball better. On a personal note he has had a long battle with his illness and I hope it is ultimately a winning one. <ok>

Agreed hampshire.I would like to see a fit McPhail as a bench replacement when we are holding the lead in the cup game against Liverpool. He does offer a calming influence when necessary when we are trying to ride out a game against tough opposition.

I admit to being one of his critics. However, horses for courses and 451 certainly suits him.

To many people can be lazy or quiters, but you have to admire this guy's spirit and commitment. We certaily see the best of Whitts when McPhail is in the side. With two grafters beside him in a central 3, he could probably get away with not being fully fit as he sits in and pulls the strings.

Always been a big fan of Macca and the 4-5-1 system is made for him, if fit he would be the 1st name on my team sheet.

Hope he is fit for Wembley. He would be in my starting 11 in a 4 5 1 formation.

No question Stephen McPhail is a quality creative player who has done the business for us. His combination with Chops that first season was awesome, but he needed Scimeca alongside him to provide the grit. When Scimmy got crocked with that hernia problem, Gavin Rae tried to fill the role but it was never the same.

McPhail became less decisive and quite honestly lost the plot going forward. He rightly received criticism for his negative sideways passing. He often became frustrated and gave away silly fouls that cost us goals - he always insists on tackling with his left foot even when on the wrong side of the opposition player. That means he goes across the body and invariably brings them dowm

Nothing will detract from his proven class though, and he will do well in a 5 man midfield pulling the strings.
