Time on pitch? Very little in the scheme of things. As for "People think Dobbie can do a job in the premier league, thats fair enough" yet again you miss the point. Most are bemoaning his lack of opportunity when compared to others and are not saying he can do a job in this league - well that's my point anyway. Sometimes you have to persevere with players. Rodgers did so with Graham and it paid off. Let's be honest we were all really starting to worry after the first 6 games. Did he drop him? No. Did he send him out on loan? No. Now he's on a barren patch is he being dropped? No. Graham has done well for us because he's been cut some slack. Dobbie has not. I agree that there are players who score for fun in the Championship but dry up in the Prem. Scotland and Chopra spring to mind. Graham himself is hardly a patch on what he was last season is he, even though he's done well for us. It's to be expected to be fair. Dobbie might not be up to scratch in this division, I don't know. And neither does anyone else. How our Manager and a large section of our fans can so easily dismiss such a prolific goal scorer when he's not been afforded any sort of decent opportunity is shocking. Maybe it's a new medical condition called 'Brendanisgod' that a lot of fans around here seems to suffer from. [EDIT: it frankly beggars belief that Dai, who has been one of Dobbie's biggest critics and who has stated that he has 'found his level in the Championship' is now screaming for his return. The hypocrisy is staggering]
I find Lita & Moore not having more minutes a lot more shocking given they've only had 7 starts & possess 4 goals than Dobbie's opportunities , but a lot complain more about Dobbie' s lack of minutes than the other 2 . Graham has come under a lot of pressure to score & under that pressure I've seen him pass the ball off to others when he might have scored himself , a fine quality to possess . Dyer's goal against Blackburn & Graham's attempted pass across the box to try to set up Sinclair yesterday , just to name a few .
Maybe its you that misses the point KJ ? Sometimes you persevere with a player and sometimes its clear to see that a player doesnt have the ability at a certain level so dont need to persevere!! Maybe some would say dont bother with flogging a dead horse The point is moot anyway, Rodgers clearly beleives he has nothing to offer in the position behind the striker . May be his performances for Blackpool will force a re-think but seeing how the team plays with a proper "10" like Siggy shows the talent needed in that dobbie position. I would never call Dobbie prolific either ,his goals record is Average/good if that . Seems there is a similar medical condition called "dobbieisgod" thankfully it doesnt seem to affect most people but seems to target a small minority
Nobody is saying he's god - just that he's a talented player who hasn't been given enough of a chance. "his goals record is average/good if that" Almost a hundred goals in 269 appearances isn't bad as far as I'm concerned, particularly since his assists are often forgotten about. Did you actually watch the playoff games v Forest and Reading? I repeat. He may be good enough he may not be, but if you persevere with one player than you should with others. The limited time Dobbie has had on the pitch suggests not much flogging has gone on.
[EDIT: it frankly beggars belief that Dai, who has been one of Dobbie's biggest critics and who has stated that he has 'found his level in the Championship' is now screaming for his return. The hypocrisy is staggering] this muppet only picks out selected words, he forgets to mention that i said none of our strikers are of the standard we want and at the moment danny cant hit a barn door with a shovel and dobbie is scoring for fun.....you missed that bit did you kangaroo. ??? or do you think others are blind on here. you need to get a life son and grow up a lot. as your pathetic attempt to make out im saying things im not.....i will speak as i find with facts yes thats right facts to back me up....your in some other world on a planet unknown to us....
Oh give it a rest. You are ON RECORD as saying Dobbie wasn't good enough at this level so what's the point in bringing him back? We all know he can't play the lone striker role like Graham can. At least those who know anything about football do. Oh, wait a minute....I forgot for a second who I was speaking to. The point is he's not been given an opportunity to prove himself - at least that's my view. Didn't seem to bother you before when he was shipped off to Blackpool. You welcomed it. You blow with the ****ing wind.
Just like nobody is saying Brenden is god Forget Dobbies record of playing lower league park football in Scotland, look at his record at a decent level like the championship, that gives you a better idea. his record is 57 games, 14 goals hardly "prolific" as you say. His prolific period was at Queen of the South L1 in sweaty socks land, but having seen the way Craig Beatie took Celtic apart the other day its fair to say the standard aint exactly high !! Intresting you mention perseverence, so your argument should also apply to Luke Moore ?? you are very prepared to perservere with Dobbie but not with others, as its well documented about your thoughts on Luke , as i have just pointed out its a nonsense to say "if you persevere with one then you must with another" where would we stop? Bessone? moreira? Tremmell? Casy Thomas? etc,etc We go back to my origional post "daft article" and it is because the guy plays in a lower league now he had 9 games in the prem league failed to score or assist maybe rodgers thinks he has found his level in the Championship? I do know that its pointless talking about him all the time in terms of him being "a mistake by rodgers" the manager has got far more right than he has wrong thats for sure, bringing in Gylfi has showed what we need(we knew this anyway) I love dobbie and am really happy for him to be playing and scoring but he had a chance and didnt prove himself.simples.
"he had a chance and didnt prove himself" When? 9 games but not 9 full games. We all know he's had nowhere near that. In fact I don't think he's played a full game. He's only started two as I recall.
When he made 9 appearences for SCFC. 2 starts 7 as sub Zero goals,Zero assists in fact a big fat Zero all round
There speaks someone who didn't go to the Final. Graham. 1st six games. 6 appearances (90 mins in each) 0 goals 0 assists 8 misses 3 sitters A big fat zero all around. But he kinda worked out in the end, right? Now do you get it?
even though dobbie is a great championship player he does find the net and thats what being a striker is all about. danny would be at the bottom of the pile with his record of scoring, the sitters he missed yesterday were an embarrassment but he is brendan's boy who he wasted £3.5 million on and he cant lose face by dropping him for to long. lita has played and scored but he never gets a chance, the same as moore when he starts as a striker has looked far better than danny, now he uses moore out of position when we lose a player but keeps playing goal shy danny reguardless......none of the strikers are that good and danny is the bottom of the pile with the amount of games he has had compared to the rest......we will have serious problems next season if we dont replace him and the others with proper premiership strikers.......lots of work to do in the summer whoever will be incharge for next season....
I get it perfectly Kj i always know when you lose the argument because you start to get personal Its not about DG its about Dobbie ,stop trying to deflect the argument elsewhere, DG was new to our system and needed time to bed in and get use to our system of play, also the fact he was playing up front on his own meant a major change of style, he was never going to hit the ground running but still did very well and got his shots on target. Dobbie knew how we played and had nowhere near the same type of adjustment to make, in fact we could argue that if dobbie wasnt being used to come on and "create" for DG then danny boy would have broke his duck alot sooner What we think doesnt matter what is relevent what Buck thinks , right now Dobbie is in bucks opinion nowhere near the first team, maybe that will change if we play a slightly different system, in case it does how many games do you think we will need to persevere with him ??
Rodgers can't treat this hindsightical situation like a toy , like us in the peanut gallery . I would suggest that Rodgers knows the inner workings of Stephen Dobbie's all around football skills better than almost anyone . From the results of 2 successful seasons with the Swans . I'd have to say Rodgers was brilliant to bring Dobbie back from Blackpool & help the team get to the Premier & equally brilliant on who to play to keep us in the Premier , you can't fight decisions that bring success & look like you know what your talking about .
Valley- Exactly right,i said before that he can only play one position .Moore and Lita can play wide, upfront or even (moore) in the hole. Dobbie can only replace Gylfi!! it is noticable that dobbie stopped getting anywhere near the team after January and that was simply because the options/players were better. He had time to stake a claim, but 9 prem appearences isnt enough for some people, it seems it should be more like 20 or something !! make no mistake,if Dobbie was the answer the club would not have forked out for Gylfi and josh Mc, they would not have the need !! .
Superswan words fail me, bottom of the pile ? He's our top scorer for gods sake, he has proved he has made the step up. There is I can see no point discussing this further with you as your arguments are bonkers, honestly try going to games I know getting tickets are hard but you are just basing it all on one thing and that is goals! He has scored 10 and is in the top scorers list for the entire premier league.
Cracker- I think you more or less have hit the Nail on the head there, but try telling some of the old goats on here !! not all players step up and carry on their abilities at a higher level, the trick is to know when that time is, Buck saw it early with him and looked to strengthen that area, its simple to me and most others but not to some
