Spurs' England International defender,Michael Dawson, could be out for the rest of the season,as a result of an injury he picked up in last nights F.A.Cup tie with Stevenage. Am I correct in believing that there is no recall clause now applicable in Caulker's loan agreement? We wouldn't want to lose his services at this stage of the season.
I believe there is a call back clause in the contract, therefore, we may lose him? Hope not, but Arry's no fool and he must know Stephen can cut at the top. Fingers crossed he's got other cover.
I have a vague recollection of reading something to the effect that any recall had to be made before the expiry of the last transfer window. Anyway,we'll know soon enough. Harry does have an alternative, however - Rosie!!! I mean to say,he has banked on her before!!!
I'm pretty sure that spurs had until 31st Jan to decide if they wanted recall him or not. But tme will tell. However I think this injury could have worse implications for the swans. If Dawsons injury is as bad as it sounds he may not be back to best for a while....even if he is the last couple of weeks have shown spurs are not as solid in defence as they need to be. Issue for the swans is that caulker is definitely going back next season as spurs and seeing as he has built such a good partnership with Williams I think he will be subject of a fairly large bid in the summer from spurs. A quality centreback pairing with great defensive qualities and a clear understanding of how each other plays is invaluable to any club, could we really say no to a £10 million+ bid
Jack ... Are you sure .... Perhaps the bid could be the other way around. This is going o be the cheapest time to get Caulker ... At least Until he's 30 something.
Isnt Harry off to manage Engerland though? A new guy will want to form his own opinion of caulker,so could even work in our favour
They can't have him till the season's over but you can tell after the last few games that when they do get him back , there getting a more highly improved player than the player they sent us .
They are indeed, not the finished product by any means though. Might mean we get the next bright young thing from Spurs,Man utd,Arsenal or Man city next season, im happy with that scenerio TBH. 2 good loans every year would give us just enough quality to compete at this level, and the big boys get a player returned to them who is ready to use for 1st team squad
I think loans are a great way to compete at this level NJ provided it's limited as we've done. You can't build success on more than a couple. Look what happened up the road. Wish they were both ours though.
One of the greatest risks that we have in acquiring a player, other than physical health and ability to avoid injury, is their ability to meld into our football philosphy. We do not have the luxury to spend "big" money to have a player not fit in; it's a lock up of funds, a drain on cash flow through wages, and we consume a squad slot with a player (an otherwise fine player) that does not perform in our system. Try before you buy is a smarter approach to player acquisition. We now know that Sig fits in nicely. We also know that Caulker is better than anyone else we have on the books alongside Ash. Both have great up side. Both are worth acquiring now before their value inflates - buy now, sell later at a profit, and repeat.
How do you propose buying either YJ? Unless I misunderstood your post. Caulker won't be anything other than a Spurs player come June and we'll be very fortunate to get Siggy. Can't really see that one happening either but it's slightly more of a possibility imo. That's the down side with loanees - they inevitably go home.
KJ ... offers can always be made. You never know how other clubs value a player and what alternative options they may have in their system as a replacement. Caulker is with us because he is way down the depth chart at Spurs. Same with Borini last season and I presume the same with Sig at Hoffenheim. Their owning club might prefer cash to having a player on their books that for whatever reason is not able to make an impact. This summer Sig would be entering the final year of a 3 year contract (I'm guessing as to the term), Hoffenheim could be tempted to sell him on especially if Sig's agent suggests the player might not be interested in renewing. Same for Caulker .... what's the length of his contract, would he prefer to wollow in the bench or behind the bench for a few seasons as he bubbles to the top of their depth chart or stake a claim in the Prem now with us - Spurs control but you never know what their thinking might be. Either way we get talent for a while, ride it around the block, check it out, ship it back if it doesn't work. I guess the other point I attempted to make is that unless the prices on Sig and Caulker are crazy money, this is going to be the cheapest point in their careers to acquire them for some while. So if we think that they're a good fit now is the time - we know exactly what we're buying we can buy with confidence.
Caulker can't be recalled and I don't think that he would be, anyway. The coaches at Spurs seem to be very happy with how he's progressing at Swansea and wouldn't want to damage that. We've still got King, Kaboul, Nelsen and Gallas, despite Dawson's unfortunate injury. I've been lead to believe that Caulker's a big part of Spurs' future plans, so it's highly unlikely that he'll be sold in the summer.
Thought so, PNP. He's still young. But if he thinks he's going back and sitting on the bench behind three or four other players ahead of him he may look for a move - particularly as he's been a regular for us and done so well. As YJ says, no harm in making an offer, though I doubt anything will come of it.
If Tottenham don't view him as ready for their team next season I'd happily have him back on loan for another year. Good for all concerned. It gives the player game time and experience, We get a quality player and Tottenham get a player with Premier League experience with another footballing team. Harry saw first hand how we play and judging by his comments I think he liked what he saw.
I think spurs want him to press for first team action next season, if by the time January rolls around and caulker hasnt had a sniff of first team action i could see him getting itchy feet and wanting to play games elsewhere, the safe bet for player would be a move back to the swans, but of course we might well have the next best thing in his place by then. I dont think he is anywhere ready to be first choice at Spurs yet, there are still things he needs to iron out in his game, like sometimes ball watching and losing focus, all that will get magnified x 100 at a top club and 1 mistake their means he loses his place the next week. We could be in with a chance if harry goes to Engerlaannd and the new guy just sticks with experience, pressure will be on the new manager to perform and that will limit his ability to take a chance with youth, alot of things to consider !! Its not impossible that we will see him here on loan,if there is a new manager at spurs then Caulker will know where he stands by the end of pre-season and may ask to go back out on loan if he is told he is not part of the first team
Im sure it will be Williams to spurs if Harry stays there...if he goes I think we will be able to get him on the relative cheap (would still break our transfer record but cheap in relation to average)
Do you seriously think Spurs are going to go with a new centre half pairing ? Ash may be a target but he would not be garenteed a starting place so wouldnt go IMO.
