    Kicked of in the championship though in that stadium, it was subdued the stadium that night.

    Wasn't the first home game in the stadium in the league v Man City? It was buzzing that night!

    Super kev first goal if I'm not totally wrong on this.

    Ajax technically but Man City was the first home league game. Both games were bouncing from start to finish as I remember.

    First game was the friendly against Ajax and Niall Quinn scored the first goal at the stadium. Kinkladze scored the first goal against us at the stadium.

    I can honestly say that after the Ajax game, I went home that night telling everybody about this new striker we had called Kevin Phillips and although I had never seen a goal machine at Sunderland, I knew he would get us 25-30 goals a season. I'd never seen a striker with such good movement and his aerial ability for a little fella, stood out straightaway. You could sense we had signed a diamond.
