Could one of the reason's SAFC have moved the home fans to the south stand because of the possibility of extanding that part of the ground over the next decade? I know its a long way off at the minute as IMO if we can get an average of 40-42k fans there per year we will of done well. I am just saying this because I know that there was plans made for the south stand to be extended and those plans are allowed to be put into use until a certain date or the club have to re-apply for permission etc. I cannot remember when when that date is though
agreed, I remember a few months back Peter Reid was on talk sport and was talking about that when the ground got extended he said he spoke to Bob Murray and said the money would of been better spent on a new striker
I think plans were to extend to 60k, and the existing structure was built with this in mind. Facts are, until we make Europe and consistently challene for top7, we simply don't need it. People talk about the 'constant sell outs' of the Reidy years, overlooking the fact that the capacity was 41k for most of his tenure.
http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/online...etails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=9900278FUL http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=8707&p=0 the maximum capacity of the SoL which would see the concourse extended in the North East, East, South East and South Stand (which will never be reached IMO) is around the high 60mark there it is mate, application for another 7,000 odd seats, god imagine if we had gone through with it and continued our good run under Reidy for another 2 or 3seasons, the SoL would most likely be a 55-56,000 seater now, the plans got shelved when we went down.
If it were the full extension all the way around i think it will 63 or 66,000 Think the planning permission for the south stand extension expired a couple of years back
I think your right, but if we reapplied it would pass with no objections, the planning on the location of the stadium ensures this. I hope the club presses on with the other plans to built facilities around the stadium, akin to Chelsea & Man City. That part of town could do with a boost, and by all accounts this would give it.
maybe slightly more if the south stand (n south west included in that) had been done it would of added another 7,232seats, that would take us to 56,000 how many more seats do you think it could hold if the north east, south east and east stand were all expanded, surely another 15-18,000? The East Stand would be atleast 10-11,000 if the south stand is 7,232 surely
wasn't there plans for a ski slope not so long ago http://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/local/all-news/real-snow-ski-slope-for-sunderland-1-1072030
