barca had busquets, zavi and iniesta as a 3 in midfield. we don't have the like

Its a whole team dilemma. this is just the nose cone of a ferrari on the chassis of a vectra and the boot of a lada.

As we've seen in our CL games though, get the attacking right and the opposition are too demoralised to test our defence. Why have a Rolls Royce and keep it in the garage if giving the Lada a run out is perfectly fine.

we've played nobody and seville have put 5 past us.... the rest didn't. one decent side and we let in a shed load.

The point about a rolls is fine if we had a rolls. We don't we have the front half of a rolls at best... the rest is scraping along the floor, dragging its tail.

City threw out a lada side in cl last night and got beat. they didn't care, they were resting players for sunday. We can't do that.

The current Coutinho is much better than the 2013-14 version

I think we can. We didn't last night because we needed to win [I know going into it a draw would have done]. As it happened the other result in the group meant a draw would have seen us top the group so in hindsight he could have played a few youngsters. We're rotating now as well which is something we haven't been able to do for a while.

Suarez WAS the team for a while. Gerrez was still doing well. Stirling and Sturridge had their best seasons ever (sure Suarez was a major factor in that).

I think another manager and that would have been a title winning team. Brodgers wasn't cut out for it. Too inexperienced perhaps?

This is our best post-Suarez team. Mané and Mo Salah are great. Firm is decent enough, but I don't think he's anything special. Coutinho... Well he had a good game, but wasn't it just last week that everyone was complaining about how unreliable he was?

It's easy to say he's world class after a performance like that. Don't forget he makes everyone grumble multiple times a year too.

I think the Brodgers year was a better attack. Primarily because of Suarez.

Imagine a front 3 of Mané, Salah, and Suarez in his peak supplied from midfield by an in peak Gerrard and Coutinho. Now imagine Godzilla unleashed by the Japanese in Trafford, eating all the buildings...

... Sorry got off track there.

To be fair, committee was probably Balotteli and the other two were Rodgers.

Either way, it shows you how disconnected our scouts were with the manager.

The exciting signing and then Borini coming in. I remember all of us waiting to make another signing and then we realised he was talking about Borini.

    You're wrong about Firmino.

    Deffo.
I said earlier Firmino is an integral part of the set-up. I think people are just looking at the players and picking their top 4 without any regard to shape.
Good job this board doesn't pick the team.

Firmino is a crucial member of the team, but with all the squad rotations that is clearly a weak spot. We end up bringing on Sturridge, when we could have a top class striker instead.

The attack with Suarez has weaker individuals that were improved by Suarez. The current group are all talented but none of them are as good as Suarez.

I think Solanke played the Firmino role well recently, he's clearly been paying attention and his movement was very Firmino like coming away from goal and therefore making space. Studge can't do the job he's always looking to move toward goal and taking defenders with him and taking away space.

Nah. Firm looks a bit less-than-stellar without the others around. It's a bit like Suarez made Sturridge and Stirling look good. I'm not staying Firm is terrible, but he's not special either. You could probably swap him with someone from any other team in the PL and get equal results.

A 4 star player (out of 5) imo. Good but not fantastic. If he were Scottish instead of Brazilian noone would get a big fuss over him.
