Yesterday, as part of my return to normal life, Mrs B surprised me with a trip back to White City, to the Wood Lane Television Centre, to see the filming of QI.

What a great experience. It's free but needs booking months in advance. The downsides are queueing in the rain and having to sit still for 2 hours 30 minutes...but Sandy Toksvig was fabulous. At one point, I thought that I was going to get asked a question (I was one of 8 colour blind audience members and the show was about Vision). It didn't happen, but I might be in an audience shot of blokes with their hands up.

There's not many letters left, so if you want to go, GET ON WITH IT! <laugh> <laugh> <laugh>

    P.S. I'm ****ing knackered today!

They are great entertainment - and as you say, free!!
Many years ago I went to a filming of Bremner, Bird & Fortune and it was a great experience seeing the process, but also really appreciating the consummate skills of the artists.

The Ruts are playing The Cryer Arts Centre in Carshalton on 7th July. It's a gig that I'd crawl to...that's in walking distance. I can't remember the last one of those. but it would have been some time ago.

They're basically making a joke of it in this video, where he starts in complete darkness.
The album cover was designed to conceal it too, apparently:

There's a load of reactions on social media from people that know the song, but not the artist.

Is this the guy who died last year? I remember seeing the video and was gobsmacked that he was in his 70s until I saw when it was made , great voice though

Too old for two gigs on consecutive nights but there you go! <laugh> <laugh>

Echo on Tuesday was as expected. They finally graced the stage at 9:25 after a billing of 8:45 (there are curfew limits around Rock City presently...) and it has to be said that from a musical point of view they were very good! Ian's voice stood up well all night as they banged the songs out to a packed house. Not sure if it was a sell out but it must have been very close. Then we had "the interval" which was said to be 10 minutes but dragged out to around 20!! After the re-appearance we had the usual stuff of incomprehensible ramblings that no one could understand (bless him) but we ploughed on until around 11:15 and then close.

The staff were getting jittery due to the curfew but an excellent show I thought but his lack of appreciation for the "paying audience" caused, shall we say, a bit of "annoyance" in the crowd... <laugh> <laugh>

OMD last night were on a totally different level. I have seen them a number of times over the years and McCluskey knows how to play the audience well. All the usual hits played along with a fair few from the new album and the place rocked all night from the start as he fully engages with the fans. It was probably the best I have seen play to be fair.

Now I am looking forward to an early night and some sleep. Age is catching up with me... :emoticon-0106-cryin

That's me this weekend. Saturday, Transmission (a Joy Division tribute) for a mate's birthday. Next evening, Pogue Traders for Paddy's Night.

The experience is not going to be helped by the fact that both are at the same venue, The Half Moon, which is a pig to get to and from when you live in Carshalton, as I do these days.

Still it beats being stuck at home...by some distance.

This is the start of ‘The Changing Mans A-Z of music’, I know that is very self indulgent and may result in some repetition of songs that have already appeared here on this thread. But over the next few weeks I intend to work my way through the alphabet (by Artist name as any music list should be compiled). Bands whose name is preceded by ‘The’ will be listed under the 2nd word, so when we get to ‘J’ that is where we will find The Jam. Artists who record under there full name will be appear under their surname so Elvis Costello under ‘C’ and his wife under ‘K’.

So lets get started with the ‘A’s please feel free to add your suggestions under each letter.
