Good knowledge Brian, Berry Gordy must have been a nightmare to do business with , if marvin Gaye's had not had the help of his producer What's Going On would not have been released because Gordy blocked it

There's a band playing in the bar area of The Holmesdale Road End of our game at Palace. My mate, Richie, was offered it but doesn't have a band ready to go. So, these guys got it...

    Special guest........?.........The Captain........and I don't mean Hugo or Birdseye.

They really got hold of that one. Fantastic.

This stuff is meant to be played live and there used to be no end of similar bands in pubs in and around Croydon. Not so much these days....<wah>

Growing up in hayes middlesex there were several pubs that had live music and I saw some fantastic bands back in the 70s but as you say sadly they're all gone now which is a shame today's young generation will never get to see anything like it.Another thing to mention is the smaller venues always seem better to watch live bands rather than Wembley O2 etc.

Roland Kirk, I always remember being introduced the is by my father a huge Jazz fan we were watching Ian Dury and The Blockheads on TOTP and during the sax solo on Rhythm Stick Davey Payne plays 2 saxophones and my older brother says that's impossible to which Dad said Roland Kirk often played 3!

I always get stick from my mates when I tell them that I like Glen miller's music but my mum used to listen to it a lot when I was a kid and it sort of stuck with me but they can't understand how I can like punk music and Glen miller <laugh>

I am great believer that genre is not important - If you like it that is all that matters. My favourite music it is fairly clear was made between 1977 - 1982, but I was bought up with Jazz from my Dad, and my Mum liked Big Band and singers like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Matt Monro - I remember Franks Come Fly With Me LP was played almost every Sunday morning and I still love that album.

I like most kinds of music but I must admit I don't like rap music. and all the great soul music when I was growing up where has all that gone nowadays it all seems just a load of noise to me must be an age thing
