Just came across the Huffington Post (never heard of it before) In case you like me knew nothing of this internet paper it's American but seem to carry a lot of British news. This article from November is quite interesting: Original Spurcat has updated us with a lot of this info but it's interesting to see an article like this because as far as I have seen little attention has been paid to the subject in the British media.
It's a top political website. Has an English site too, but is very well known in US and the US site is very influential.
I've posted links to the Huffington Post in the past . It's not liked in the USA; probably because it matches our media closely. Although I suspect it's like our The Sun - no one likes it here but it still has the most eyeballs. Training youngsters into football stars is the only way forward, no matter which club you're talking about.
We have to bring through more youth, all the top teams in world football bring through youth players, yet we seem to struggle to develop talented youngsters and prefer to buy youth players that have come through the ranks of other teams. However there is a sign things are starting to change, and I can understand if this was a big factor in not keeping Arry as manager, as AVB will allow youth players a chance and take more a risk, with Caulker, Carroll look to be the main two players to step up, while I'm hoping we see an attacker break through from the youth ranks and get his chance, Obika anyone? A young Nick Barmby would be nice! In the article you posted Spurf, Ajax & Barca get mentioned, yet there is also Dortmund, who are another team to allow youth players a chance, with their second string team seeing off City and again showing how giving youth a chance and getting the right balance does pay off, and its a risk worth taking, especially when you consider how high fees are for players. Plus there is a greater satisfaction from seeing one of your own be a success, and when you have a group of players progress from the youth to the 1st team, it creates a better team spirit and togetherness.
Off topic, I know (sorry) but the Huffington Post is NOTHING like the The Sun. It is a Liberal leaning political web site which is hugely popular amongst political figures. Back on topic,(typically) excellent article unlike stuff we see in the mainstream media here. Assume it came from the UK site?
I'm telling ya lads, we're being watched, I've said this before!!! Some little rat out there is reading our comments and using them for their own articles!!! I swear there's sentences in there, almost word for word that I've already read on here!!! Duncan "Cut&Paste" Tucker!!!
Interesting! I just bookmarked The Huffington Post but when I returned to my main page no Huffington Post in it's place The Jewish Chronicle! Are they connected?
Good article. I'd be quite happy for our youth academies achievements to go under the radar though. Hands off Barca and Real!
Ajax suffer this but they still keep producing and Southampton must get a mention in producing young talent and that has been to our advantage. We have less predators and are one ourself so can hardly complain.
The Huffington post was started by John Boy Walton wasn't it? Da da da da da deeeeee,da da da da da da da deeeeeeeeeee. DA DA DA DA DA DA DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, da da da da da daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Anyway he seems to have done his homework. He thinks Arsenal will pip us for 4th. If that's the case then we'll have had a bloody good season in transition.
