That could explain why he was so angry yesterday after the match. He probably felt outfoxed by Koeman in the second half.
Having slept on it, I'm still bloody angry how easily we folded, but I don't blame Klopp because we ****ed up by not scoring when we should have in the first half. We could have been 5-0 up.
Yeah tactically you can question the changes but the inept performance is partly at fault and just shouldn't happen. If those players put a shift in and we still get beaten then it's down to the manager. SHOULD BE, I agree.
What does this mean exactly? Work hard, or be effective? If the latter, then it's unlikely we'd get beaten. If the former, then it won't make any difference if they work hard if they're just not good enough. Skrtel's problem isn't work rate, it's the fact that he has too many errors in him. Benteke looks lazy, but I don't know if he actually is or not. He's too slow and cumbersome to fit LFC's, and Klopp's, style, imo. He's not a bad player, but he's a square peg in a round hole. By now, the manager should know enough about his players to know what they're capable of and what their limitations are, and choose accordingly. You can't just throw a player on and expect him to show something you know he doesn't have. The substitutions were just changing players, there was no significant tactical change to counter that of Saints. I said weeks ago the the PL is a steep learning curve for Klopp - he's still on it. It's a much tougher task than he expected, I think, and we're probably guilty of expecting too much too soon. Having said all of that, I'm really happy Klopp is our manager and I have every confidence in him getting it right after he's had the chance to bring in more suitable players.
Sorry I contradict myself completely in that post, I mean that Klopp expected a player to come on and be able do a job, to be effective and have a positive influence on the game. If he does that then we may get through the game without adjusting tactically, what happened was that those changes meant that the players were inept and helped the collapse other than possibly preventing it. I'm not saying the manager is completely blameless just that the players being so very bad only helped Southamptons cause.
That is part of the problem. What do you do if your bench is full of ****e and you need to change the game... I mean..I thought Hendo but then...he's been absolute bollox since his return and apparently had the ****s all week...he's no leader so would he have shored things up????I'm doubtful. Don't understand the the toure/skrts decision but sure...
I always prefer to think of the team, and manager, as a whole rather than point the finger at individuals. The bigger picture rather than the details. I honestly think that game was lost because we thought it was won.
That is a problem as we should have players on the bench who can at least come on and do a basic job effort wise and technically. We're never going to have a squad full of world class players in every position but we should have players capable of doing the basics of their job. Yesterday showed that we don't have that.
Without a doubt we lack mental strength, if we could perform like we did against Man Utd recently then we'd win most games but players think it's ok to switch this effort on and off when it suits. Klopp mentioned this recently saying something along the lines of that winning the league or a cup is the same as winning a single match, if you play each game with the right attitude one will lead to the other.
Of course Klopp isn't blameless. He was out thought by Koeman and it cost us the game. We won the midfield in the first half. Koeman changed it. They won the midfield in the second half. Why didn't Klopp bring a midfielder on rather than Benteke? Why didn't he take the midfield fight to them? (all based on reports I've read, not watched the game nor highlights)
It partly cost us the game, the players coming on and being so inept is also part of the problem and they are also to blame. If Klopp had got his tactis right we may have won. If the players who came on had done their job to a basic level then we may also have won.
that's the rub with this team, and especially this defence. Unless we get three or four up we're never really safe (and it was the case too in the title run-in two years ago - we tended to have to swamp teams with three or four goals in the first half hour toget some distance). Even then, as in Crystanbul, we were still vulnerable if, as in that game, we were still going hell-for-leather for goal in the last twenty minutes. But any team with ambitions, even one in this process of re-building, should be able to hang on to a two goal lead. And I'm alarmed that we seem to have a £20m professional who has to be taken off because the home fans are upsetting him. That's not exactly inspiring, is it?
Not at all. I like Klopp and really don't want to blame him but he as to take responsibility. You can blame the players too, but not instead of.
this exactly.. what i said after game... koeman won the tactical battle yet benteke should have won it for us... I think i'd have done the midfield battle, shoved origi up top and subbed him for benteke later.
Where was Lucas? Is he injured? He would have done a job in midfield. He always takes a booking if it stops the opposition
