    First of all, my original response to you was to say that you were not been pedantic as you were clear and concise, as opposed to the original objection by genjilion which must have been pedantic if it needed you to offer alternative meanings

    So far so good?

    Your subsequent post;

    And to be really pedantic, in your last post DeVries, you finish with "Try think before you get all pedantic". Whilst I readily accept my knowledge of the English language is far from perfect, I believe the verb "to think" cannot be used in the "bare infinitive" form in this context, especially when combined with the past tense. The correct form would be to utilise the "to-infinitive form", giving "Try to think before you get all pedantic", or alternatively to use the verb in the correct tense, for example, "Try thinking before you get all pedantic". This stops the mismatch in your post, and allows for other users to better understand your comments.

    Now this is pedantic, why be pedantic on a virtual forum when predictive text, alcohol and iPhones will have a baring on perceived diction?

    However at the risk of joining you in pedantic nirvana, you missed out a possibility

    Try to think before you get all pedantic

    is meant to be

    Try to, think before you get all pedantic, the last phrase a common expression

    Anyway dh, as impressive as your logic and loyalty might be, I will not retract my retort to this remarkable piece if flippancy;

    It's being refreshing being pedantic with someone with a human brain on here

    I am of the opinion that if people at going to post views they must be prepare to defend and justify those views when challenged

    There are too many bigots and bullies on here from 606 who are happy to spew their views but when challenged go crying to the mods about getting picked on

    Why not allow free speech? if idiots without knowledge are allowed to post 100 times saying the same rubbish about the same driver, why should they not face humiliation at the hands of those who enjoy standing up to bullies

    In the words of Winston Churchill

    Well I am sure you will know the words of WC

    This will be my last post on the matter because its distracting me too much from revising thermodynamics (I'm a student, sleep is unnecessary!). Firstly, I'm not entirely sure our definitions of "pedantic" are the same. I define pedantic as being overly concerned by minute details, whilst your definition, if I've interpreted correctly, appears to also include ambiguity as a part of being pedantic. This could be a cause for the argument. I believe that it is perfectly possible to be clear and concise, yet simultaneously pedantic.

    Secondly, why am I being pedantic? Well, it's a personal thing more than anything else, it could be called a one man mission to raise standards of written English. Whilst predictive text can be a helpful tool, it requires a knowledge of sentence construction to be used correctly. I also feel as a generation we are too reliant on technology compensating for poor spelling and grammar.

    And with regards the final point, true, the sentence could also have been written like that, but personally (and this is not a grammatical issue), I feel it does not flow as well as the two suggestions I previously made, and I believed a third suggestion, which I believed to be inferior, would be superfluous.

    Good night to you, it is nice to have a properly constructed argument occasionally. Something we agree on!

    Ok so you lost one argument ( about genjilions objection) but won on correcting my English.

    Fair dues

    Good night to you, and if I might be cheeky I would suggest a good nights sleep after study is always more beneficial than cramming into the early hours and then catching non beta/theta deep sleep

    Well, fortunately for me, I have very little idea of what his thread is all about.

    My only thoughts are that if someone felt they were wrong, it is 'above average' to offer a public apology.

    it was a thread for nitpickicking pedantic pedagogues.

    Edit: gratz to PMC for being man enough to admit when he's wrong and apologising for his behavior (although tbf there has been some needling).

    To the Hamelot known as De vries, grow some like PMC be a man and admit when you're wrong, otherwise you just look like a fool.
