    Guthries not good in the middle either so we are stuck with him. Ashley should have sold him, total waste of space.

    Passion is the main thing we will miss about Barton. Someone to rally the troops, a la Arsenal at home. Without JB and Nolan, we don't really have anyone like that. We may also miss his tracking back and defensive work, but it looks as though Marveaux could do that if deployed on the wing.

    I think Cabaye improves on Barton in every other way. He's quicker, better crosser, better passer and possibly better at shooting. With Cabaye and Tiote in the middle, we may be able to play with a natural winger, possibly in the 4231 formation that we used in pre-season.

    Also, people saying Guthrie is a poor player clearly can't see beyond the WBA away game last year. When he was fully fit and on-form, he was class at times last season. For example, at home to Man United, he was probably the best player on the pitch.
