Yeah. And it's not just the you crave so eat and get fat therefore less fit

Many, including me, get really ill for a long time after. Various ailments

In fact I would love to see a proper study on consequences of quitting after being a long time smoker. I personally think you would find some Stark results if anyone had the bottle to publish such a thing. Because the advice would be not to quit imho

It's probably best to just not start. I'd imagine the science is that introducing your body to constant levels of dangerous toxins keeps your immune system on it's toes so generally you can fight off things. If you withdraw then naturally your immune system will not need to work as hard making you susceptible to infection given the fact that years of abuse to your body has diminished it's overall effectiveness.

Nope, I gained a fair bit of weight when I quit but I managed it well. I posted a pic up not too long ago, you'd have ****ed over that for weeks pal.

And that's the problem, no one is ever going to tell you not to quit. It's a clone mentality. What people do with their lives is their business, but there is always going to be some knut outside a supermarket ready to start a fight <whistle>

    I agree with don't start.

Again I don't have facts/reports here just a theory based on what I know. But I do think stopping long term smoking has consequences such as say diabetes (for example). How to price that? I personally couldn't but it would be interesting of those who can did

I do think that like with all things it would be a brave person who attempted to say don't quit to a person with the current views on smoking

I knew one doctor who did many years ago to a man who had smoked for most of his life, then quit and had all sorts of ailments. 10 years he quit for and suffered and this doc (his sons a doctor too and is on television and stuff) told him to smoke the odd one a day. Which helped

it was allowed until a stewardess sued the **** out of one of the airlines for lung cancer and suddenly the airlines all got 'health' conscious.
I'd like to point out that the record for the longest lived person is 122 years old, and she smoked everyday until she was in her 100's.

Lots of mental repercussions too... I've personally gone through a period of anxiety and a ruined thyroid since quitting which are most likely linked, I'm on meds forever for thyroid but I'm still glad I packed the cigs in.
