Bearing in mind that Sheffield brought the thick end of 3000 that means that the home support was pretty much what we've been getting for the last few games. Given that they had sold about 20000 by Friday I thought we might have had a slightly bigger walk up. Thought we'd get about 23-24k.
To be fair its a great number for this division, but I do get what you mean, the CAFC website really 'bigged up' their belief that there should be a bumper crowd yesterday, so I was a bit disappointed with the final number, it was the same with the Chesterfield game as well.
Fourth biggest crowd of the day outside the Prem, but yes, I thought after what the OS had said, that it would be more.
Hey, cant argue with a crowd over 20,000 for a third tier match. Braindead and Palarse would snap your hand off in tier 2 ! This reminds me, Michael Slater on Charlton Live said that he was expecting mid 20's should we make the Champs next season.
Not saying it wasn't a good crowd. It was. But we were given to believe that it would be bigger. I was prompted by the exchange on another thread about the old plans to extend the Valley to a 40000 capacity. Just wondering what our latent crowd is. Thought saturday was a good test. Biggest game in yonks but full price tickets. tells me that our home support at least for now is around 18000.
I think you'll find not a bad crowd at all, I for one expected round 21 to 22k but I'm still happy with being only 8 away from 21. Remember there will be some fans who cannot afford to go to football, there are still tough times for some right now. Let's see what we get for the Stevenage game.
The Bury game will be a good test. They wont bring many it being an evening game and its a full price number too. I think well get between 18 and 19 thousand.
I was glad it wasn't more, all that promotion for the Exeter game last season then it was a loss so the number was more or less right this time.
