Just got an email through about a 10% increase Sky are pushing through on my package. I don't have sports or Movies either. Thinking of leaving them but what are the genuine options out there now? Is Kodi the way forward?
Get Kodi. £40-100 buys you a box, plug it in, download the addons or download a bulld which gives you all the addons you will ever need. A build is program and skin that allows you to navigate through all the stuff you need, live tv, boxsets, sports channels, kidsstuff, radio, everything really. As long as you have a decent speed broadband connection and have a bit of tech savvy, you are away. Everything is free after that. For live TV and Footy/Sports etc, you may have to search a bit to find the best addon or channel. The Wookie addon page though, gives you a list of all the channels showing which game every day so it is not to difficult, and you can watch EVERY game, even if it is not on live telly. DO IT!! Watch a few videos on Youtube about KODI, and you will be hooked. Its MINT!!! AND FREE..!!! You can even download it for free on you PC or Mac if you prefer.. CUT THE CORD.!!
I cancelled sky a year ago - their latest offer if I come back to them is £25 per month for the full bundle for 1 year they are really getting desperate now.
The problem is that the Bairns like all of their stuff so Sky Family is perfect for them. Sky are really a bunch of robbin twats. CPI and RPI indexes show little to no inflation so 10% is a piss take. Someone told me that for the full package plus multiroom and full HD it's over £80. Nuts.
We pay something like £96 p/month for the whole HD package. An absolute piss take considering we watch like 12-15 channels in total. Most of it is just garbage. To take out a subscription for BT Sport would be another £19.99 p/month. **** that. You can understand why people stream.
I was thinking of a kodi box for movies and sports and then adding to my Amazon Prime Video with subs for Netflix to help appease the kids.
A random bloke in a pub offered to sell me this box for £100 which took the satellite cable and ran it through some kind of decoder and then into the back of the telly via HDMI which effectively unlocked the entire Sky package for free. That seems too risky for me like. Probably never see him again anarl but think I'll give it a miss.
I pay £66.75 a month for all sports packages, variety bundle, skygo extra, multiscreen and two digiboxes, I don't have a tv aerial so have full sky boxes in kitchen and living room and use them for all tv content, the skygo extra means I can use upto 4 other devices like my laptop or iPhone to watch stuff when not at home, great for hotel with free broadband, trains, long journeys in cars as I have unlimted data on my phone package or pubs that don't screen sports but have free broadband. I can't be bothered with BT, I did read that there is a move to kill the live streams that I like many will use to watch matches, I don't mind the cost because I like the football, cricket, F1 some of the major golf coverage and get more out of other sky channels as I rarely if ever watch stuff on ITV or BBC these days
I got Netflix for £8.99 super HD on four devices, then got Kodi, then cancelled my Sky. Sky have since come back and offered me the whole TV package for £25 a month....which I took for a year. When my twelve months is up with Sky, they can sling their hook. Got TV coming out of my ****ing ears now Just downloaded Erotic for Kodi...might watch it later with the missus
Albert, let your sky contract run down.....then cancel it, tell Sky you have Netflix and other means of watching sport. They'll come back with an offer you can't refuse. I've got fibre broadband and use a powerline adaptor (cost £20) to run my kodi box through to my lower floor bedroom which is at the back of the house. Works perfectly, I just lie back and watch all sorts on my 42" Samsung.
its called cardsharing pal been round for years ..only standard defintion mind ..hd ones got encrypted been watching sly for years never paid a penny to mr m
Linux box and card sharing. Gives you everything in sd and bt sports in HD. 15 quid a year for everything. Ive also got a gigabyte brix from amazon a ssd, 8 gig of ram - whack o copy of windows 7 on it and kodi. Jobs a fish.
Kodi is a pita when things stop working. If you set up kodi expect nothing and you will be happy. Not a patch on the twin tuner Linux box with a 1tb had tucked inside.
First thing to check with Sky mate is the so called called freetime/anytime/international package they give you. They actually automatically add it to your account, charging something like £5-£10 a month for it, dependent on your tariff. So if you don't use your landline for actual phone calls, because you have free calls on a mobile(s), ask for them to change it to pay as you go and as long has you don't use the landline to make calls you instantly will save a minimum of £60 per year Even if you do use the landline, are you likely to spend that amount on a landline over the year? I heard the government may be looking into ending landline charges after MP's raised it in the commons.
Used to be able to do this with Virgin but it doesn't work any more, they've come wise to it so just do as you requested now and cut you off
I'm in the process of moving house atm and I have no intention of getting a TV package at all at the new place. I'll just have internet and freeview (for kids). Probably look at a Kodi box for watching the footy I use a Now TV box atm to watch games on Sky. I get BT sports with my Virgin package.
