OK I know this is, on the face of it, quite a stretch for a club that has only won 2 games out of 24 to date, but if Harry works his magic with some new faces then we have six winnable games Home Norwich Sunderland Wigan Stoke Newcastle Away Villa which puts us on 34 points - giving us 8 more games to accrue a handful of points (if we need them) to climb towards 40. Simples ? Or a pipe dream ?
Going from zero to hero is never easy but I have been looking at this the same way, if we can manage a win on Saturday that will be a huge step towards the target. i think we only have 3 games in Feb which should give us plenty of time to bed in the new players and systems as long as they sign.
For me January was all about Keeping in touch and we closed the gap by 1pt, now is the time to kick on. I'm actually starting to believe so disaster around the corner
Problem is we've always performed well in the so called tough games and then blown it in the 'easy' games. Who would have thought that we would win @ Everton and Stoke, and then manage to beat Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal last year, and then contrive to loose to Norwich and Wolves, and draw with Villa and Blackburn, as well as the tonking recieved by Bolton on the first day of the season.
Don't want to tempt fate but villa and wigan, unless they invest significantly in the next 48 hours, are in deep ****. That leaves reading, who are having a real go but could implode like bolton did last season. I will be really disappointed if we sign a few players and didn't finish above these three. Harry already has the basis for a good team and its clear his methods are working. We just need a few more to complete the puzzle. All eyes on you Tony.
from a outsider looking in, it was important to get 3-4 points in january, on paper 3 looked good. to get 6 is a bonus, 36-38 will be enough, i can see rangers getting 39-41 points, 16th is where i think you will finish, you have a top class keeper fantastic midfield, decent strike force and defence about to be strenghtened and a bloody good manager
We won't win more than 5 games before the end of the season. Mixed in with the games mentioned are ones against some of the best teams in the Prem and we can't just bounce back from a hammering one week to beat the next lower table team that turns up at W12 the following week. Not losing is great but only wins are going to get us off the bottom, if we draw every game left it won't be enough to avoid the drop. I'm not so certain that the teams listed in the OP are so bad that we can think they are games to win. Didn't we think the same about Swansea, Southampton, West Ham, Reading etc? Everybody will turn up expecting to turn us over and can't be blamed can they?
As demonstrated last season - I thought we were sure goners after that Wolves/Blackburn/Fulham/Bolton losing run, and only picking up a point home to Everton. if we can beat Norwich we will be well on our way, Diakite would certainly strengthen the midfield if he comes back with his head in the right place
I thought we were gone after the Liverpool game - but there is renewed optimism after the last month, and as stated if we can get a couple of wins we will be right in the mix again. I really think we can pull this off!! Fingers crossed we can strengthen further in the next 36hrs!!
Am starting to believe it really can be done, Our run of games isn't so bad in comparison to the teams around us. Those in doubt have a go at the BBC predictor as see how your season pans out. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/predictor/default.stm My season seems to predict an amazingly close end at the bottom of the table with 5 teams kicking off their final games with relegation still a possibility for 2 of them. (In my league we stay up with a a great 1-1 draw away Liverpool!) It all seems a bit of fantasy with only 2 wins on the board and the Norwich game is massive, fingers crossed it ends better than last years fiasco.
