Hessle Sporting Club had been using the 3G pitches at Sirius Academy but they have now been booked up by commercial firm Champions Soccer. The club's use of the pitches had been subsidised by £300,000 in community use money supplied by the council, but that has since been pulled. The move has now left almost 400 youngsters with nowhere to train. Club secretary Chris Allen said: "Sirius Academy has been a great asset to us in terms of our training facilities. "It is unfortunate the council has taken the decision it has and, to meet overheads, the academy must look at longer contracts to upkeep the facility. "Unfortunately, having no plan B to the cuts has meant Champions Soccer has entered the frame, meaning 21 of our teams have lost a training facility. "With the majority of facilities already promising letting priority elsewhere for September, we are struggling to accommodate our teams." Mr Allen now fears for the future of grassroots football in the city. He said: "We totally understand the decision for the academy to find suitors for a 12-month booking. "However, with a pitch shortage and lack of facilities of this kind, grassroots football will continue to struggle to accommodate junior teams of our kind. "As a result of the cuts, teams are facing costs of about £30 for a third of a pitch, putting more strain on the pockets of parent and guardians who are unemployed." Player Harry Watts, 14, said he is gutted by the loss of training facilities. He said: "As a result of the facility being taken away, this will now prevent me and my team-mates from playing football and socialising. With no training facility, I fear my interest in football will drop." But Hull City Council insists every effort will be made to find alternatives. Rachel Roberts, assistant city manager, said: "We are working with the East Riding County Football Association to ensure the club is aware of all the suitable alternative venues available in the city and in the East Riding area."
That is a bit ****, but it's not nearly as scandalous as the Airco situation. As far as I can see, no lease agreement has been breached, a businessman hasn't used his position as owner of the company that runs the facility to take it away from its intended use and make it for the exclusive use of his other company, getting away with it only because the owners are too scared to revoke the lease, and money isn't being spent by someone who said they wouldn't pay for any extension on a council facility. Quite a big difference between that and the Airco. Oh, and they're not trying to pass the blame onto someone else for their own decision.
Airco for all Mk2? I cannot see the difference between the Sirius eviction and the Airco arena fiasco but throw in 'The Allams' and the HDM and the BBC would be all over this like a cheap suit. Likewise HCC selling off the Reckitts Library. This was the first public lending library in the city and it was given as a gift to the people of Hull by James Reckitt. So it belongs to 'the people of Hull' But the council are selling it off without a referendum!!!!! How is it any different to the KC Stadium, besides the obvious?
There should hopefully be a lovely new top quality 3G pitch for them to relocate to at the Airco Arena, fingers crossed. These 400 lads need that pitch.
The Sirius eviction is worse because it illustrates everything bad about our society. No politics so I'll leave it there. Airco may affect more people but its the result of a spate between an old man and the council and the fact the Allams didn't come to an agreement with Sirius before Champions Soccer. The council tax payers of Hull used to subsidise teams from the East Riding interesting.
I don't want to triggers political debate but is there a solid reason why there are city and county councils? Why aren't they just all as one? It would make more sense to me.
Kinell. What's wrong with training on oak road or east park or summat. None of this 3g **** in my day. Bag of balls and few cones is all you need.
Bag of balls? We were lucky to have one, and it was filled with liquid concrete. Cones? Did you say cones? We were lucky to have coats for goalposts, in fact we used to chalk a goal on the side of a two up two down, off a terrace, off a street, and play 'three and your in' until someone either came outside and threatened to throttle us or called a copper to give us a clip around the lug. And we were the generation that won the World Cup.
You were lucky to have coats, all we had were second hand balaclavas, as for chalk. luxury that was, we used spit and I suppose you had daylight, we had to play in a dark air raid shelter.
I think the council answered this on the radio the other week. Its not about them pulling funding, Sirius is an Academy so does not come under the 'control' of the local council. I believe... but am happy to be corrected, the council receive the funding and pass it straight onto the schools. If the council don't receive it because the school isnt in their control they cant pass it on....sure they can use the school field for free!!
You were lucky... We had to use our sisters as goal posts and our playing area was the council tip where we searched for our tea. We didn't have a ball,so we took it turns to kill one of us,then we chopped the head off and kicked that around....
When I played youth football, I always thought it was daft that we trained in 3G, perfectly flat surfaces and then tried to perform on some ridiculous mudbath of a school field. The training was more or less pointless.

Well I said it's completely different and listed four key differences. Tubbylard said it's the same and made some baseless comment about it only being a fuss because it's the Allams. So whilst I'm not sure about intelligent, I'll go for mine being the more valid one
We didn't have 3G when i was a kid,but this has crossed my mind. Playing on 3G isn't even like playing on a good grass pitch. How does a lad perfect the sliding tackle ? How do budding Chelsea players learn to dive ?
Some were not so lucky. We had a fat lad who we used as the goal. If you hit him with the ball, you'd scored. Children can be very cruel at times.
