This thread is a counter to the Bradley Wiggins thread. Sir Roger was a true sportsman, respected by everyone inside and outside his sport, as the tributes show. It feels like the death of an era, as well as the death of a wonderful man.

A lovely tribute to Sir Roger on Radio 4 this morning. Truly from a bygone era before the country was ruined. Sir Roger was the epitome of self effacement - describing his achievement as “lucky” due to wind speeds that day, and going on to say that his professional deeds as a doctor/ surgeon meant far more.

A great man. You won’t see his like again.
