There's a complete rewriting of history going on regarding Bob Murray. For the life of me I don't know why. He left us in a situation where we had no money, were bottom of the Championship immediately, the following season and all the players wanted to leave. Some ****ing legacy.
Well I am old enough to rember the days of Alan brown as Manager and a board with no ambition for the club, who turned brian Clough down when he said he would walk over hot coals to be manager. For me Murray was the clubs saviour. We were heading inti the third tier when he took over. tthere was a real danger that we could have gone bust with his sound management of the club we had won the Chapionship 3 times and had had the two back to back 7th place finishes. If the money in the game had been the same at the end of his time as it was at the begining I think he could have built a club to play at the top end of the prem. However the level of money needed o do the job increased out of his reach. He then sold the club at a knock down price to people he thought would take the club forward and he was right in his judgement. He was and still is a SAFC fan, who did his best and put a lot of his money into the club with out him me might not have a club. So to all of the knocker lets put things into prespective. So far the comments oon here are doingthat. Lets name a stand after him or is that going to far?
Seem to remember that SOL was built with a hefty Euro grant and another grant from the government at the time, Murray put in a small amount to say that he helped. That's fine not a problem with it, however roll on a couple of years and we are doing well in PL and the plans for the AOL are getting finalised. The money that should have been spent on improving the team was diverted to AOL building big mistake. Nothing against Murray he's probably a very nice bloke and some sort of recognition at SOL would be a good idea in my opinion.
Bottom line for me, he saved the club from going out of business after the Cowie/McmEnemy regime............. it was THAT close...
It was 14m from memory to build the Sol, originally it was going to be smaller (about 35000) but when the designers came back with the plans the design was capable of 42500 with the possibility of expansion. As far as I remember it is possible to have another teir all the way round and we could have a capacity of 68000. For Vegas music just stick lost in Vegas in the you tube search. Or I Tunes, Amazon, HMV, Play etc... Or go to www.lostinvegas.co.uk
was Quoted fifteen mill, was also suggested that Murray, take charge of building the new Wembly Stadium, as the costs were going through the roof, as it were, he probbably would have done a better job than the cockneys, and MPs, all with noses in troughs, who pays , we do.
