I know it's non Charlton related, but this news is just to big to ignore. I know he's perhaps not the most liked, but he surely has to go down as the greatest manager of all time? To create so many championship winning teams over and over again at a time when the EPL was worldly recognised as the best is an incredible achievment. A good friend of Curbs, we musn't forget the gesture he gifted him before that game at OT. Make no mistake, this is a huge loss to football. P.S Stay away from Powell
What I hope is that Mourinho is actually lined up for the Manure job....Benitez (who surprisingly is doing a good job) leaves Chelski over the summer and they are left in the brown stuff with no manager AGAIN!.....please god!
I don't think we'll see anyone quite like him again - the consistency he's achieved with the side over such a long period of time is extraordinary and his 'forward buying' of players and immediate shedding of 'dead wood' to maintain consistency season on season is second to none. I believe Moyes will be the next manager, too despite his lack of European experience - he and Ferguson go back a long way and it was widely reported a while ago that he was offered the position of assistant manager at United.
Could spark a very interesting managerial merry go round... Martinez to Everton, ??? to Wigan Wolves and Millwall still available SOMEONE IS BOUND TO WANT CHRISSY SOON!
I'll take one for the team and take them Millwall job or wolves job just so merry go rounds don't happen and no one wants Powell And the big pay off if I do badly wouldn't go down to badly either
Anybody wanting confirmation of what a tolerant board this is should check out a few Manchester United boards and read some of the b******s that's already being written about Moyes. Makes you wonder whether some of these people have ever been near a football ground in their lives.
Spare a thought for Martin O'Neill. Tipped as a successor to Fergie quite early in his career. Then looked an inevitable shoe-in at the peak of his fame (unless he took the England job). But his star has waned while Fergie left (wisely in my opinion) while still at the top. Great admirer of Moyes. I hope he does well. I just wonder if he has been waiting a couple of years too long. Does he still have the fire? He is also a bit "old-fashioned". That won't matter so long as he keeps on winning, but if he strikes a bad patch I can see all the comments about being the last of the "old school managers", blah blah.
I'm not sure this is the right appointment to be honest. Everton always had an underdog mentality with Moyes when it came to playing the bigger clubs, which won't fit at Manchester United. They froze in plenty of big games, like the 2009 Cup Final when they scored in the first minute then didn't know what to do. Expect to see Leighton Baines at Old Trafford come August.
I remember him when he played for Dunfermline. He scored both goals in a 2-2 draw with Kilmarnock in the cup, then scored the winner when Dunfermline beat us 1-0 in the replay. He mentioned the game in his book, but no mention at all of the 2 goals he scored.
Fergie had one last player to have a row with though, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/ar...xit-door-Sir-Alex-Ferguson--Charles-Sale.html
