I think that most people on these boards have at some point in the past 6 or so months come on to say they wanted Gordon to be offered a new contract, as he is the best keeper at the club and we need him back? Those same fans (and admittedly I have been one of them) also say they have some reservations about The Mig's control and command of his area, his positional strength at set pieces and that he doesn’t always convince them.

However, it looks like he is the new number 1 and to be fair, he has pulled off some astonishing saves this season against some of the biggest players and teams. So, I thought now that Gordon has gone, do you all think that it is a straight contest between Mignolet and Westwood for the start of the 2012/13 season, or is it the Mig's jersey to lose now?

Interestingly, one of the stats I read said he had 21 clean sheets in 61 games which I think is bloody canny considering it’s only his 2nd season in the EPL and he is still only 23 years old? In keeper terms, he is a rank novice and yet he has over 100 games for Sint-Truiden prior to him coming here, 61 games in the EPL and will also have double figure international caps when he turns out against England next week. All this at such a young age really.

Maybe we have all been so fixated looking at what Gordon will or won’t do that we ignored a canny young keeper here right now? If he keeps on improving, at 23 years old, he could have a massive SAFC career ahead of him. At 6ft 4 he is physically imposing and seems to be much noisier during games as his confidence grows.

Oh, and lets not forget, he is a canny penalty saver as well? Lol

Is everyone now happy with Mig as the number 1?

I would have liked Gordon to sign a new contract but the Mig is more than capable of doing the job. He has been the first choice keeper this season and has been canny. He is still young and will get better with age so there is still more to come from him

More than happy with Mig Cest and, I couldn't understand all the "he doesn't command his area" "his distribution is ****e" etc. etc. etc. bollocks he keeps clean sheets and makes some good saves that is what he is payed to do. Would have liked Gordon to have been given a year extension when that man was in charge but, it wasn't to be and he is now away on a free a mistake in my opinion.

Simon Mignolet in my opinion is a very good young keeper, he is only 23 and there is no reason why he can't be between the sticks for us in a good few season's time.

For me he deserves the number 1 jersey and its his to lose with the performances he has made since he came into the side 2season's ago, IMO one of Brucie's best signings at around 2.5m.

With the Mig in goal and Westwood as his back up there is no problems for us in the goalkeeper department, its a shame how Gordon's career has gone with us with the injuries wrecking the last couple of season's because when he is on form he is fantastic.

The right thing has been done in the reliable Mig being made N1 and the injury hit Gordon being released.

Gordon is history so its Mig and Westwood and I like them both. I do think that over the coming season Westwood will become number 1, nothing against Mig I just liked what I saw with Westwood and hope he gets a run.

I have been a Mig fan from the first time I saw him play, and always he was going to be our long term No 1. Mind you, Westwood also looked the business when he got in the side, so for me they are both already better than Gordon who I don't think will be a big miss...

650k we paid for him Poolie.

I think he's already excellent, and command of his box will come.

He's going to be top drawer, our biggest fear is that somebody else wants him.

I can see him being numero uno for many years, I like the lad a lot.

He must work on his kicking mind, it's WOEFUL!

    Now that is a FACT.

Gordon's distribution foot/hand was far superior but we couldn't afford to take the risk so Gordons gone, Meh!

Mig has been a good find for us, when Westwood had (flu) he showed his bravery to come into the side when he still had a broken face and and had to wear a guard (and against Stoke he played well also with a not fully held injury). He then played well the rest of the season and deserved his place. His distribution however as somebody says is woeful, it would be helped if the back four dropped back found space so he could roll the ball out to them, Frankie could help in this also...so c'mon MoN get it sorted.

I do however feel sorry for Gordon who is also a very fine keeper, he was expensive and on highish wages. His problems started if I recall with vermin defoe putting his foot in and breaking his arm, this followed other injuries..I would like him to make a success somewhere else.

Forget about Gordon he has gone but if he was here that would make Mig my number 3 i also think that Westwood is a better keeper than both of them?

Mig will get there in time BUT his distribution at the moment is absolutely sh*te. If there was a stat MIG would be well ahead of all the other goalkeepers together for pathetic kicking etc but he is young and his distribution can be worked on.
Possibly got another 12-15 years at the top barring injuries etc.
