ah, the king of spain. thai describes him as 'steady' - i agree with that. he's a model professional. he was treated disgustingly by former manager glenn roeder, left to rot in the reserves, not even allowed to train with the first team, yet the guy never gave in and fought for his place and was rewarded under lambert who played him a lot in league one and the championship. better in midfield than at full back in my opinion but played six times in the premier league last season at left back (we didn't lose a single one of those games by the way!). he's got a nice left peg, good delivery from set pieces but he is, i'm afraid to say, painstakingly slow and that is his ultimate drawback. often looks like he's running through treacle. by the way, he is called the 'king of spain' (despite being scottish) simply because he 'looks spanish'. top man, look after him please
