sorry to be the party pooper, but this has to go down as the most overrated goal ive seen..
yeah it was good but no world beater, when he makes contact with the ball hes still a yard or so in play, not the byeline and if you watch closely it bobbles up and sits up perfectly for him just before he swings at it , which is what he did and fair play to him for it, but he swung at it and the rest was up to the gods...
glad it went in obviously but i cant believe the fuss its created personally.

I haven't even seen it yet but I still think that's harsh - you could say that about any great goal. Any 20, 30, 40 yard strike could be a complete hit and hope. (I'm sure they are sometimes)

Aye, it must be crap because it took a little bobble before he hit it.

I agree with you that it isn't the best goal i've ever seen.

I'm just glad it gets Simmo back to scoring ways.

not really been harsh, not slagging him off for it its what strikers do and what they are for to take a punt..

Agree, having not been at the game last night and then read this thread I've been bursting to see the goal all day. Now I just watched on the link above I feel a strong sense of anticlimax. Everything that was said about Macca and their goal however...

I don't think it's god like genius, but I think the gods sent that ball into the net. The wind was blowing quite heavy in that direction, and it was far less than a yard, you could see the tears in the turf where his studs stuck in when he stuck his foot through it, half of them on the byline. It was no world class technique making it curl outwards like Drogbas similar goal against us, it was a hopeful punt which the wind obviously caught enough of to send it into the post. I think any other night that would never have gone in.

It's not as good as I thought it was, it was just a special goal to see in real-time really because I completely lost track of it and then suddenly it was in the net.

from where i was sat my immediate thought was: "...what is everyone shouting about?" and as i was about to scream with some kind of cynical symmetry: "...penalty ref.....", i then realised it was rippling the net. astonishing skill, or luck perhaps, as with most great goalscorers - the more they try, the luckier they get. nice one jay

gerd muller was possibly the luckiest goal scorer ever. or was he just that good?

God some of you are laughable, Simmo can't win, gets slagged off for not scoring for a couple of games, then puts in an amazing effort that most forwards would have given up on, and all you do is call it luck. He made it by bloody trying hard and trying to score..and he did, give him credit.

Yea. Even though it is credited to chester as an own goal clearly it isnt his fault.

Plus Simpson scores with his left foot, when I'm sure he's right footed. Managed to get the shot off almost on the byline, whilst a defender was sliding in, beat the keeper when he had no right to, and get the ball into a space that was at best only a balls width wide. Yeah you're right - **** goal.:emoticon-0112-wonde

Bruce was beaten far too easily for that cross too - though he might have been carrying an injury by then.

An excellent article and a terrific goal; to say anything less lacks any form of grace.
