I went into this game thinking we were going to get spanked after our very indifferent start to the season, but I was pleasantly surprised that we were the better team.

We were the better side in the first half and Mildenhall had virtually nothing to do. Second half we started well, got a good goal and then sat back and FGR started to get a hold of the contest. Their goal was a bit of a fluke with a massive deflection off the colossal ass of Parkin, but after that we pretty much controlled the game.

Trotman was excellent at the back and he must have cemented his place after several strong performances. Martin was creative in the first half but faded badly in the second and DC was right to replace him when he did. Cunnington was ok at holding the ball up, but I'd like to see more from him than just that.

Good goal from Monkhouse - powerfully connected with a very good Brown cross. Overall, we played more as a team over the full 90 than we have so far this season, so from that perspective things are looking up. I'd like to see Jamie White given a start - and maybe even Ellis too - both looked handy when they came on.

I got absolutely drenched on the open terrace - the rain got harder through the second half. For the second time this season, I threw a ball back to Lee Brown for a throw in. I've only done it once before in 30+ years of following the Gas - this season I've done it twice, both times to Lee.

I'm confident that we can start to move up the table after that performance. Forest Green are supposed to be one of the strongest sides in this league but I thought we made them look quite ordinary.

I reckon we can get three points against the leaders next week - last week I wouldn't have dreamt of that, but from what I saw today we are starting, at long last, to play football.

Very accurate assessment of the game Baldee IMO. We played really well for most of it, and we did indeed play more as a team and it resulted in more passing football. The only time Forest Green really got on top was around the time when they scored - it was an avoidable goal because we should have cleared our lines before the ball fell to Kelly, but it was a lucky deflection off Parkin at the same time.

We defended well and controlled the midfield, and I don't recall Forest Green having a shot on or off target until after we went ahead. Trotman was immense again (I did say in previous threads how much better he is than the Conference) but I still worry about Parkes because he looks like a mistake waiting to happen.

Good performance, and plenty to build on going into another very difficult game on Saturday.

....but still missing that incisiveness up front. I'm not sure Matty Taylor's the answer, he huffs and he puffs but after 4 games he hasn't done much.

Time to start Jamie White on Saturday?

Can't disagree with any of that, spot on <ok>

On a side note did anyone see browners finger Parkin when Parkin kicked up a fuss about a throwing decision and took the ball with him <laugh>.

Typical of our fortune, play well, fully deserve to win and only end up with a draw from the oppositions only decent chance in the game to that point. Despite that it was an encouraging performance, we're starting to look like an organised team.
