"Premiership football star Steve Sidwell has been banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding near his Surrey home.

Appearing in person at Redhill Magistrates’ Court, on November 20th the 30-year-old Fulham midfielder admitted exceeding a 30mph limit on April 22 this year, although his speed was not recorded in court papers.

The offence was committed while Sidwell, of Sandy Lane, Kingswood, near Tadworth, drove a Land Rover on the A240 Reigate Road at Burgh Heath. He was fined £1,500 and ordered to pay costs of £85, plus a victim surcharge of £120.

He was also given three penalty points and disqualified from driving for six months “due to repeat offending”.

I wonder if he had to get a bus to the Swansea game and that's why he wasn't able to come on until the second half??

6 months for speeding seems a bit harsh. I got caught doing 35mph in a 30 zone last year and got a cheeky fine. I've got a feeling Siders was doing a bit more than 35mph though....

The ban was for repeat offending. Everyone speeds, the trick is not to get caught (more than once). Steve Sidwell - too slow on the field, too fast off it.

I think he was weaving in and out of the lanes, trying to cover every inch of the road and getting caught repeatedly out of position. Brede was in the car behind, and he was left hopelessly exposed (which sounds like a very different type of court case).

He should have said his missus was driving and given her the 3 points. Anyone know if his missus has a ginger skinhead? He should have married Paul Scholes...or Steve Davis.

Wow, the Ginger Iniesta has done remarkably well for himself. He could give Peter Crouch a run for his money if there was a 'punching above their weight' competition!
