Form Guide Team __________________Pld W _ D _ L _ F _ A _ GD 14 Shrewsbury Town (13) _ 7 _ 1 _ 5 _ 1 _ 7 _ 8 _ -1 3 Wolverhampton Wndrs (3) 7 _ 5 _ 1 _ 1 _ 14 _ 6 _ 8 Well one of the matches of the season, if not 'the' match has come upon us. It is 22 years since the two teams have played in a league game and old rivalries have not been forgotten by either set of supporters or the police who will be out in force at every roundabout and pub in the area. Graham Turner should get a warm welcome from the Wolves fans and hopefully it will be a friendly game. Wolves come to the Meadow with a very good form, even though they lost to Walsall on Tuesday (which must have smarted) and will have a point to prove. They have a lot of well paid players and a lot of money available to fund them including remnants of parachute payments left over from falling from the Premier League. The stats above show what town are up against and will mean town's defence are going to have to be at their best, wingers and midfield will all need to give them support, the forwards will need to take some of the pressure by leading the attack on their goal and aiming to keep the ball in the opposition half as much as possible... Town have Winfield (I remember his name, yes!) fit and probably raring to get back into the starting line-up, Wolves have Edwards fit after a foot injury and I bet he would love to start this game too. Will Town do the double over Wolves the same as they did the last time they were in the same league? It would be lovely, but I doubt the bookies would be paying out on the high odds they would be offering for it! Put your thoughts below. Good luck to town and let's hope it is a fantastic day and we get a good game that doesn't end with us being 'found out' and being the entertaining game on the news for the wrong reasons.
thanks matster, on paper this looks a 3-0 drubbing or worse from wolves, yet they showed their defence was suspect at home to Walsall. I go tongue in cheek 1-1 parry, att. capacity. if bradshaw wants to make a name for himself, this would be the game to start. floreat salopia
I go for Adam Reach to step up to the plate and get the opener with Taylor snatching a late winner after an Edwards equaliser - 2-1 to Town and a famous victory to savour.
there will be an upset, even if town's bench collapses. come on town, floreat salopia. it is rumoured Roland has splashed the cash, and our lads are on a win bonus of £2.50 each.
Roland will be sweating at 89 minutes if he has to pay out £27.50 in bonuses, has he got insurance? I would love town to win and will support them all the way to the last whistle if we get there without crowd interference. But have to be realistic and go for Shrewsbury 1 v 3 wolves Wildig Att 2 less than capacity Come on you blues prove me wrong and get a win for Salop
What about another draw? 1-1 with 9,393 viewers and Wildig to get a screamer from 2yards (sorry, meters)
gee some people on b and a have little humour. I tried uncle rolands £2.50 win bonus on their boards. oh dear and AJ still has the key to his chubb eversafe wallet. go on, we will make it a £5 win bonus a man.
Lennny, You may be more of an optimist than me but I cannot see many positives when we have only won one competitive game all season. The failure to sign a decent striker is coming home to roost. There will always be a few bad decisions against us (and hopefully a few for us as well) in the course of a season but if we are not able to score in a game then the bad decision will cost us points.
As ghmm mentions we do need a seasoned striker up front, we have Marsden due to return soon but we need a tough whily character up front to cause problems. I don't think we had that in Morgan last seadon either.
Matster, I think we must be unique in League 1 in not having a single striker with any track record of consistent goal scoring in this league (or for that matter in League 2 either). The current policy of relying solely on young untried strikers (permanent or loan) is ludicrous, especially as we are repeatedly being told that the money is there for a signing (or perhaps to pay a loan fee as what is rumoured Bolton were asking for Eaves). Waiting for the January window may be too late.
We outplayed Wolves, stuck some nice stuff together and on another day could easily have won 2-0. Positive enough for me, confident we'll stay up - certainly more so than last season.
It does not look anywhere near his hand from that - I hope we are appealing and submitting super slo-mo evidence.
