AARRRGH! PORT FAIL! WE'RE GOING TO LOSE ABOUT 11-0! WE BEAT THEM LAST TIME AND COULDN'T POSSIBLY DO IT AGAIN! Well, my opening paragraph last week was pretty provocative to the fantastically fickle footballing flying gods. Damn. Where's an f-word when you need one?! Anyway, back to point. This was my opening paragraph last week: so I decided to start with a similar kind of note this week after we won 2-0 away in the blistering heat (by England, January standards) and two different strikers scored in one game for us for the first time in roughly 7,268.453 years. This time, we will be seeking revenge for their unjust draw last year. What a game that was: Davies hitting the bar from 30 yards after 1.4 seconds; us scoring 0.8 seconds after they did; Collins scoring a stunner; me getting progressively wetter as the game went on from the dodgy roof and some bloke called Ainsworth turned out for us. Who the bloody hell is he? This time, we can expect to see an opposition determined to maintain their superb record in Shrewsbury, and they will do so by sticking their third top goalscorer at left-back. Ouch. Port Fail: Recent league form: LLLLWW Top Scorers: Richards (10), Rigg (7), Loft (5) Last Meeting: Port Fail 2-3 Shrewsbury (Williamson [2];Morgan, Wright, Ainsworth) League Position: 12th; 41 points from 28 games; GD 6 Away Record: W6, D3, L5, F20, A18 Shrewsbury's Home Record: W10, D3, L0, F23, A7 Lenny's SUPER Fact: Port Fail haven't drawn in their last 9 games. Lenny's GRANDISON Fact: Jermaine Grandison has never had hiccups. Lenny's Prediction: Shrewsbury 2-0 Port Fail (Collins [2]) Attendance 6,104
Incidentally, anyone know who this bloke is? According to the BBC he plays for us: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/shared/bsp/hi/football/statistics/players/m/moss_386204.stm
Nice one Lenny! Tom Moss http://www.shrewsburytown.com/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10443~41657,00.html I don't think he plays for us anymore!! Possibly related to Darren? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/shrewsbury/7187288.stm Goal is to play in the Premier League (2008)
vale have had some close run things at the meadow. including a game 3 years ago where our goalie was injured in the last minute and they scored in the 90th minute. shrews have got a certain rythem going and i hope they win 3-0 gornell, collins, wroe 5776.
I can't stand Vale, simple as.. Salop 3 - 0 Failure 6,010 (SCS, Wroe, Ainsworth) There'll be plenty of boo boys, so where your tin hats!
uncle graham is worried about the weather on saturday scenario 1 ground is frost bound .... .. 2 sleety snow possible on both counts game goes ehead as frost is unlikely to be as severe as tonight. anyway do they put straw down to keep the frost out
Just realised that if we win this we are sat in a great position for possibly a very short period of time
The frost SHOULDN'T be an issue unless the temperature gets below -15°C and doesn't get back up above freezing (thanks to the frost covers). The snow is more of an issue, but I really can't see it snowing. There will be a 9:00am pitch inspection, so we should know early whether or not the game is on. He said in the Shropshire Star it'll be another couple of weeks (still better than expected initially). Link: http://www.shropshirestar.com/sport...erriff-sets-sights-on-shrewsbury-town-return/
I cannot make the game this weekend but, in the hope our makeshift defence holds up again, I am going for a 2-0 win with Collins getting 2 goals (1 penalty). I do like Taylor as a player but I really think it it time for Ainsworth to resume his torment of the full-backs in this league. I also predict a crowd of 5900 with the Vale contingent becoming increasingly frustrated as the game goes on and pushing down a few advertising hoardings to keep warm in the sub-zero temperatures.
stop press weather. tonight thurs/fri morning---shrewsbury -10 saturday ==snow warning east wales/ w midlands mid/late afternoon medium heavy snow. 13.00 kick off was an inspired move
shame, but once you get mega degrees of frost in the ground, it takes time to go. so what can we do tomorrow
