Has his critics, but the competition in defence seems to be doing him the world of good, he seems to be back to his best (11/12 season), he's getting his boot to everything inside the box and his judgement has immensely improved since last season. I like him and Sahko as a combination, but I don't think either one of them are the sort of defenders who can bring the play forward from defence, not as good as Agger, anyway. please log in to view this image
I'm a Skrtel critic and if I'm honest, the Skrtel-Sakho partnership frightens the life out of me due to Sakho's tendency to dive in or take the risky option out of defence, coupled with Skrtel's occasional lapse in concentration. Having said that Skrtel has definitely improved from last season. I think that Sakho will show that he can bring the play forward but he just needs to settle.
Apparently Rodgers took skrtel into his office to tell him how impressed he was with his performance against Man U , so looks like he's back in favour.
It's good that BR didn't drop him right after an excellent game. I thought Agger might replace him once he returns, but Skerts been in great form and deserves to be starting.
Having Ninja Skrtel back on form is never a bad thing.. would you rather we have players to call upon that a playing well or bring in players that are low on confidence? #welcomebackninja
Always been a fan of Skturtle. When he's on form, he's a top defender. No idea why he has so many critics, even amongst Liverpool fans. He's looked great the last few games.
Many of you know, I really do not rate our Skrtel (equally, many of you should also know I sang his praises in the 2011-12 season too), but he is playing very well ATM. However, him and Sakho as a partnership scares the living **** out of me!!! It is working ATM because they are in a three (hate the system) with Toure keeping them in check.
He's played well and even started to bring the ball out of defence a bit more today it seemed (one run where he went from inside our area to inside their half before wining a free kick sticks out. I can't see him & Sakho being first choice centre backs ahead of Agger & Toure once we have a full defence fit but it's good to have Agger, Skrtel, Toure, Sakho all fighting and being able to play at CB. Add to that Sakho & Toure being able to do a job at FB seems like defence is looking good. Time to work on the midfield in the winter
I like skrtel. Proper defender. Sakman needs time to settle as he looks all over the place atm. Just glad kolo is there to steady the ship, very impressed with how well he has done for us.
I think it got to the point where he thought, **** what the **** am I doing here?! Erm.... ah good someone touched me, I'll fall over so I can get a free kick and run back into defence!
I think it just shows what proper competition for places can do and the right attitude in response to said competition. I can't complain about a player upping his performance & fighting for his place. So well done Skrts!
For the record, I never doubted Skrtel's ability, I knew he could play after seeing him during the 2011-12 season and winning player of the season. However, I don't think he has a football brain and he needs someone to guide him (Toure in this case, Carra before that) and I don't like his "rugby" approach, he seems to have cooled on this too
Equally though, Agger looked alot better with Toure next to him to be the true leader. Toure is by far the best defender at the club and he's the one who runs it. All the others just play second fiddle to him.
Toure is already looking nailed on to be our signing of the season Best free transfer we've ever made IMO (not that he has much competition there )
