cheaper tickets for fans who live in their City ?
ie Everton's , Liverpool's and all other large sides fans who live outside a postal code or area pay more , could it work , would it be to complicated ? Tranmere need the punters dont they ? So do Chester as well .
If you came from a town that did not have a football League team it would be the closest that would offer a discount ie Warrington - Wigan .

Is that a deliberate wind-up? I've never even seen you post before. I live in Warrington, but I was brought up in Liverpool. I wouldn't go and watch Wigan if they paid me (within reason <laugh>), unless they were playing Liverpool.

Well it seems cling ons come from afar , if you made it cheaper would they stop going to the bigger clubs and see their own ?

Just thinking of the samll clubs in these times of despair , why a person from a town miles away would want to go to a City and support a team when they have their own is beyond me , ah well instant gratification generation .
I take solace there a few left not like them , for if we were there would only be 6 clubs in the land , Stockport , Tranmere and Rotherham I salute you .

Doesn't work like that though, I live in S Wales but have been a Liverpool fan since I started watching footy. I don't come from a football family so was never pushed towards a team like I have now done with my kids.

Cost is one of the reasons I can only go to Anfield 2 or 3 times a year so increasing the prices would make it more difficult as I already have to pay travel costs.

Football is in your heart, if there was no Liverpool I wouldn't be going to Cardiff or Swansea.

It depends on how cheaper. Currently Colchester United tickets (league 1 mid table side) are £18-£26 I can get a decent seat at Anfield for a Europa league game for that. In fact its cheaper for me to get a ticket to see Wigan play in the premier league (cat c) and if you've seen Colchester play this season you'd agree that the drive to Wigan would be worth it!!!

Colchester have a 10,000 seat stadium yet barely get attendances past 4000 (They've sold out twice. once Vs. Norwich and an England u19 game) and they still do not reduce ticket prices.

So in answer to your question yes, it would get more bums in seats at local teams - I used to go all the time when the tickets were just shy of a tenner at Layer Road but now... Never, I've been to WHCS Twice since it opened, once for a family open day and another when my sons friend hired a function room for a birthday party.

anyways, screw Colchester United, I can go and see the team my Uncles team play for free (Gas Recreation). My mates play for them and they are in the same league as Holland FC (New home of Jimmy Bullard)

That is down to the locals though, promote your club better give free child tickets educate your kids on your club and tell them what it means to support 1 team, all this small club crying is nonsense. Have the vision and ambition to promote your club in your area and live within your means.

  9. But if there was never a Liverpool then you wouldn't have known any different and would be supporting someone else. (what's with everything getting twisted to some silly ****ing sci-fi thing today...?)

I agree wit you though. Travel costs people from outside the City a lot more already without making tickets more. Not that it would make much difference to me, I can't afford to go anyway <grr>

We've had out of town support since the 60's so why act like its all something new, and when it was pay at the turnstiles on matchday they had to set out extra early so that like us they could queue up to get in, we now live in an era were tickets are bought prior to games(online, over the phone with credit details or through corporate means)this gives all fans the same opportunity of obtaining tickets.

We cant just stop people that have supported us for years from getting tickets because they live outside the area, and with the amount of season ticket holders and away fans allocation theres not really that many left.

But if that thought followed right across the board there would only be a few teams in the Country , thank the Lord that's not the case .

Not talking about not supporting , people can support whoever they want even if it means they are gloryhunters and leeches , my point is the locals should always be given priority , why should a day tripper or an Olso red deprive a local of a ticket ?

You're a Southampton ex-pat living in Liverpool, have you ever been to Anfield/Goodison to see games that never involved Southampton?

I think on another thread you said you did, if so you are as bad as the 'clingons' you're having a pop at because on those days you deprived a local supporter of a ticket?

I don't agree, there is aways going to be a structure and some clubs will climb that structure and become bigger. Clubs need to be managed correctly and need to live within their means, this also applies to big clubs.

If a club is a small club without much support and without the structure to become more, then don't stretch the club too thin and risk it going under.

How long do you have to live here to be classed as "local" ?
My wife's parents have season tickets at Anfield so I am hardly depriving anyone and my company has a box and also does a deal on unsolds at Goodison , again not really depriving locals of tickets .

No if all people from afar supported the major clubs then there would only be those clubs , that's blatantly obvious .

And you think that is a better excuse than you came up with to stop out of town 'Liverpool' supporters of getting a ticket?

It matters not how long you've lived here if you're still a Southampton supporter, you should maybe practice what you preach.

Well I've lived in Manchester my whole life and I've never dreamt of supporting United or City.

I don't like your surpremacist view of things, the way I see it is a Liverpool fan from Australia is just as much a fan as one from Stanley Park. It's a global game and the big teams attract a global fanbase, deal with it and feel privileged to be part of such a massive community.
