For the record girls, I'm very happy, if your happy, hope you stay up, but do not count on Shelvey, he's totally brain dead, and have been calling for him to be dropped from our starting line up for months, and it only happened when Monk was sacked, since Alan Curtis took over 5 weeks ago Shelvey has been benched most of that period, the guy has a serious attitude problem, cannot pass a ball to save his life, and is constantly looking for the long hollywood pass, which very rarely comes off, he never hacked it at Liverpool, we gave him a second chance and the nugget blew it, even after Monk coming out publicly to sort his game out, it only lasted a few games, very poor player, and I cannot believe you paid £12 Million for him, but aye I'm more than happy..........
Shelvey's a strange one. Had lots of potential with us and showed glimpses but as I'm sure a lot of Swans will tell you, he's constantly looking for the 60 yard diagonal. Great when it comes on but needs to learn to do the basics. Shove him in front of the back 4 to get the ball and ping it around then could be great little player, but seems to lack the intelligence to play CM. Doesn't offer much movement, tackling is reckless as well. Think he just needs to work on his short passing and movement which is why he maybe didn't quite fit in at us or Swans under Rodgers & Laudrup/Monk who wanted to play short game. £12m might be a bit steep considering we sold him for £5m and don't think he's progressed too much from there. Be prepared to see him try and score from the half way line every other game as well
I'm over the moon that we've got rid of this useless long ball lump. Even better we've squeezed £12 million off you
Lot of hatred for our Gestapo-looking baldie. I'm sure he did well for Swansea last year? Maybe he just wanted out. I'm leaving my job for a better one and it must be said my effort has dropped a touch.
He's been ****e all season. Last season, imo he only had a handful of decent games. But because he's an England regular now, pundits think he's world class.
Not sure were you play him though. He's not a DM so you still need someone to win tackles there... not as good as Wijnaldum and doesn't score as many goals so won't replace him... as a 3rd wheel in a midfield 3?
Here's another way of putting it!......... Here's the deal. Garry Monk won 1 out of his last 13 games. The players were stinking the joint out. So he got deservedly sacked. Shelvey got dropped, Swansea's performances (if not results) drastically improved with him out of the team. Shelvey sulked. Shelvey sulked very publicly on the pitch. And got his move. And somehow, somehow, someone at Newcastle sanctioned a bank transfer of £12m to Swansea for nothing but a pack of trouble. Don't mention it. grateful thanks to the Toon Army, from a very happy Jack Army..........
As a completely Neutral Hull City fan looking in..... This could be one of those decisions that change the fate of the season. I have always thought Shelvey was a decent larker and will fit in well at Newcastle....... Can't believe Swansea sold to a relegation rival.....absolute madness.... Good luck to both teams, lets hope Blunderland, Villa and West Brom go down...
Hard to call this move. Seems like a handful of million too much but i am surprised he's only 23 as he seems to have been around ages. I suspect he will be at DM next to Tiote and his job will be to spray the ball around whilst Tiote keeps it simple. I think we're going for a 5 man midfield with Wijnaldum, Sissoko and either De Jong or Perez behind the striker. Honestly think that midfield is good enough to stay up (Wijnaldum-Tiote-De Jong-Shelvey-Sissoko). Defence is a lot dodgy and strikers are still finding their feet. We NEEDED to get Austin, we'd have more points at this stage. I love Mitro but he needs to be learning his trade in the Premiership as second choice to an established striker at a mid-table club.
I haven't got a strong opinion on the guy either way, but id rather have paid big money for an proven quality striker (presuming we could attract one) than buy yet another midfielder. Unless a few are on their way out it is a signing that probably could have waited until the summer. Lets hope a decent striker and defender are edging towards 'the line' as we speak!!
