Totally agree re SWP. I have had enough of him - and I have been to all home, and most away games in the past 18months. Wasnt there today, but I have seen enough of him to know he shouldnt be playing. He contributes nothing. What good is hard work if he does nothing else? He cannot hit a barn door and gets pushed off the ball easily as he is so small. He was a good player, but looks past it now. We had the same problem last season - NW kept playing him and we could all see it wasnt working. BUT we cannot, cannot sack hughes now. That would be pressing the self destruct and panic buttons at the same time. I am just as angry and frustrated as everyone else, but we cannot waste all the work that went in during the summer so early into the season. If this continues into november then we wont have much choice.
Yes, it is the odd individual error but it's every week and it's because we didn't strengthen sufficiently at the back during the summer. Yes we have injuries, but we needed to spend some serious money on defenders, not some free outcasts from other clubs. Hill, Onuoha and Ferdinand just don't cut it in this division and Nelson is too old. SWP is just as rubbish as last season yet he gets picked every week - it's a joke!
The next 2 games are Everton at home and Arsenal away. Arsenal will hammer us and Id be shocked if we beat Everton so it will likely continue into November and then we have some matches that are 6 pointers. Reading and Saint at home.
Agree. Col, I usually agree with just about everything you write but sacking Hughes is not in our best interest. Whatever he has learnt about this team walks out the door with him and the new wman will take at least 10 games to get a new team up and running. As to when to worry? The answer is when one win, or maybe a couple, does not take us up to 14th / 15th. If we were to be properly adrift, then I would start to get properly concerned. Especially since we have no choice or control whatsoever, KEEP THE FAITH and get behind manager and team against Everton next week.
Thats what I mean - by the end of november we will need to change things. Gives the new guy time to assess the squad for January transfer window.
