Playing silly buggers, or quite right? http://footballleagueworld.co.uk/leeds-united-striker-stalls-move-to-sheffield-united/? Leeds United striker stalls move to Sheffield United Leeds United striker Billy Sharp is allegedly stalling his move to Sheffield United until he receives a pay-off from the Elland Road outfit, reports The Sun. image: http://cdn.footballleagueworld.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/billy-sharp-300x208.jpg please log in to view this image Sharp is wanted by Sheffield United The 29-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the West Yorkshire side following the arrivals of Lee Erwin and Chris Wood and has been strongly linked with a move away from the Championship club this summer. Reports this week say that former club Sheffield United have agreed a £500,000 fee with Leeds to bring Sharp back to Bramall Lane for a third spell. Sharp, who joined the Whites last summer from Southampton, is reported to be refusing to sanction the move because of a difference in wages. He will have to take a pay cut to join the Blades and is waiting for Leeds to hand him a pay-off. The striker was in and out of the Leeds team last season, making 28 appearances and scoring just five goals. Should the move be completed, Sharp will be reunited with Nigel Adkins who had he had worked with at Scunthorpe, Southampton and Reading. I fully expected this. Hed be taking a serious pay cut to leave us and will naturally want to be compensated. Of course, I hope hes aware, hell have to spend probably two years in and out of courts to collect his payoff from Cellino
If we want him to leave he should have his contract paid.... It's time cellino started treating the club and its staff properly.
Personally, I'm old school. I'd put him in with the kids and make him watch them from the subs bench. Then we'll see if his priority is playing football or making money.
I disagree, as far as I've ever seen this isn't normal. There are certain cases when it happens but I'd say it'd only be 10% of the time, we were already stupid enough to pay off the rest of his contract at Southampton.
If he hasn't put in a transfer request why should he leave and take a pay cut? We have fans moaning about other fans giving Bellusci some stick over his refusal to play incident and then a player who wants to play for the club is suddenly a sinner because he refuses to take a pay cut? What has Sharp done wrong? We sign him, we play a system that isn't going to suit him, decide to off load him but not pay his contract up to date expecting him to take less money elsewhere? Doesn't sound fair to me... For the record I don't believe Bellusci should be getting abuse either
We have a contract with him. If he leaves for less money he is entitled to have payment for the reduced salary. We agreed his contract, now what normally happens is a transfer fee is agreed with the new club that covers the amount. If our scouting was so bad that we can't recover the amount then like all decent clubs we have to suck it up and take it on the chin. The fl are going to get balled off if this happens again, we haven't sorted out the Cameron Stuart situation yet.
I agree with WJ on this. Sharp was moaning and groaning about not playing and not being picked, now he has his chance at more regular football he's making a stand, has he been talking to Cameron Stewart's solicitor; obviously money is a bigger priority. Did the amount agreed on cover the rest of his contract payments, or is claiming a difference in wages a new thing that some solicitor cooked up. Players do get a percentage of any transfer fee, which, if I guessed correctly covers any time left on the player's contract, I could be wrong on that as I don't know the ins and outs of it. McContract took a percentage of his transfer fee but didn't claim his contract with Leeds should be paid up. As I see it, if a person leaves a job to go to a lesser paying job then he obviously has no claim. If he's asked to resign a salary position then he can claim his contract be paid up, but only if he did nothing untoward. Sharp is obviously happy to go, but only if he's paid the difference in wages for playing in a lower league which, normally pays lesser wages so, Sharp wants to be paid championship wages for playing in a lower, less paying league. The situation we have, as I see it is, if Sharp is claiming a difference in wages, after we paid up his contract at Southampton and probably paid him a decent wage, then Cellino is entitled to have a look at the situation with his solicitor; 1 makes a claim, 1 makes a defence. Sharp didn't live up to expectations so we should counter sue.
Sharp hasn't asked for a move, we are the ones seeking to end the contract. The payment due is for the difference between what we would have paid compared to what the blunts would... If he goes, and sues we'd lose . It's the way things work in football.... This is a situation 100% caused by cellino being a cock again. If sharp wasn't what we thought blame the bloke who bought him. If sharp is ineffective as a poacher because we never get the ball in the box ( see last seasons stats) blame the bloke who decided how we play. Yep you got it.... This is cellinos the madmans fault.
My last line was tongue in cheek Chippy, I'm aware we wouldn't be able to sue. Sharp wants to go though, but only after making demands. Sharp "I'm happy to sign for the blunts, but only if I get some money first" So Sharp is a money man, not a Leeds man then. Wasn't it you who told me about having a sense of humour...
Sharp has 2 choices : 1) He refuses to move and stays at ER on his present wages for the next 12-months as he is entitled to do. 2) he goes to the blunts and gets a 3-year contract that is 2-years longer than the contract he has left at ER, which means he can plan his next 3 years earnings properly. He may be entitled to a % of the fee as he didn't ask for a transfer
Once you realize you have bought a couple of duds in Erwin & Wood, you will need Sharp and Morison as Antenucci could cry off sick at any given time - I hear you were boing one of them in his 1st game back!!
You're right that it is us that wish to end his contract, and that gesture is covered by him being entitled to 5% of the transfer fee. He is entitled to absolutely nothing else in law. He is clearly trying to negotiate a position to cover his future drop in wages, but should realise that his wages are only going to drop because to date he has not earned that level of reward with us, and there is no certainty that he will perform to that level ever again. He has some choices, and it is entirely up to him: 1. Do nothing. See out your contract with Leeds in the stiffs & guarantee that the next contract you land will pay even less than you're getting offered presently, partly because you're not 'playing the game', and partly because you've not actually played the game for another year. 2. Negotiate sensibly (which means don't do it in public - FAIL!!), and come to a compromise. Work with Leeds to get a bit more than you're actually entitled to, and if you're confident in your ability, ask your next club to offer you a low wage with HUGE incentives, so you have the ability to match or even increase your earnings to beyond your current level, depending on your achievement. 3. Be obstinate and refuse to move unless your contact is 'paid up'. Then, as you're dealing with Cellino, go to option 1. Anyone who wants to play football, is sensible, and is confident in their own ability will opt for option 2. The press seem to suggest that option 3 has been selected, but we'll need to wait & see.
