Why are we so **** at them? We still get a reaction from the crowd when we get a corner but this must be because they remember how we use to score from them many many years ago.
Ki can't beat the first man 8 times out of 10 from a corner. RebelBhoy is distraught at this. Fond memories of Thommo drilling the ball in for big Sutty to flick it in from the front stick.
When we signed Maj I thought, yes, we've finally got a big, burly CB who'll weigh in with a few goals from set-pieces. I was wrong. I've never known a player to get on the end of so many balls and fail to get a header on target. Fingers crossed Kelvin Wilson will score a few. Apart from that we're a team of short arses. We (usually) set up with two attacking LBs who get to the line and put crosses in but there's rarely anyone to attack them apart from Murphy and he can't get a game. We all saw how Samaras attacks a cross ball last Thursday: like a wee lassie afraid to mess up her hair. What I would give for another Sutton or Hartson.
With Sutton Hartson and our three big defenders it usually only took a couple of steps by the King and someone was getting his head to the ball. Now despite most of our players been smaller than the defenders no one moves. Our players seem to expect to beat bigger players from a standing start. When did we last see a player making a late run into an empty part of the area. Another thing, the ball is often played in at pace, if the ball is a little to high it flies past the crowd of players and ends up out of danger, maybe a throw in. Why should we not always have a player hanging around at the opposite side of penalty area to return the ball back in.
celtic strikers and midfield crowd the box for another pointless corner.. please log in to view this image
Mulgrew is 6ft, Ki is 6ft2 yet these 2 are always on set pieces or rarely in the box to get on the end of them.
