Was watching the Liverpool v Chelsea game today, and someone mentioned that Liverpool have scored 23 goals from set pieces this season (not including penalties). We have delivered some great balls into the box from corners and free kicks this season with few being converted. I remember the days of Taggart Elliott and Walsh (and Prior), with at least 1 of them (usually Taggs) blocking off a defender. Haven't seen us trying that at all this season, and with goals going to be harder to come by next season, we are going to need a better conversion rate. Something to look at maybe?
We seem do OK with direct free kicks I think, but agree that our conversion rate for corners has been dire for years. Definitely need a specific training program for that.
Last time we got relegated we scored no end. Muzzy Izzet ended the season with the most assists in the whole League Then we went and re-signed Steve Guppy
Looking like Cardiff are doomed (not many will feel that sorry for Tan but I do for their fans) ... Caulker might be a useful addition to have at both ends of the park ... wouldn't be at all surprised if he has a relegation get out clause ...
Not sure we should be looking for a defender at a club with the second worst defence in the league. Even with a get out clause in his contract, its still not going to be cheap.
I'd agree - Cardiff's problems are not primarily the defence - and Caulker's partnership with Ashley Williams when on loan with Swansea (with better players around him) was very impressive for such a young player ...
