Wow, this is dreamland!!!!! I love the African flavour being added to the SoL - how about some Ghanain and Benin flags along with some African rythym instead of Prokofiev?
This is great news even if they've kept us in suspense for days. Isn't it strange that Chris announces two press conferences which don't happen but the minute they make the big announcements he is conspicuous by his absence.
I agree with BrambleGyan - I just think Prokofiev is too dour for the fun, exciting club we're trying to be. Surely, we want something more in line with Asamoah's dance. Suggestion : does anybody remember Emerson, Lake and Palmer's 'Fanfare for the Common Man'? It was Aaron Copland's classic with a rock & roll beat underneath. Would that not be better? A bit seventy-ish and sounds dated now. But it sticks in my mind we have someone on these boards who does House mixes (Syd, I'm sure you know who that is). Why not have a go at a more solid, 2010-ish exciting beat with the Fanfare over the top of it? 'Fanfare for the Common Man' - with a mix by someone actually in the crowd. How Sunderland AFC is that? We have a classy ground, probably the best owner in the Prem., the best chairman in the world, a small-club manager who's looking increasingly like a Harrod's sort of guy, a passionate crowd, and a top class team on the pitch - don't we need something more upbeat and exciting to start a game? David Milliband is out there trying to sell Sunderland to Tokyo and Beijing, New York and L.A., Rio and Buenos Aires, and all the capital cities of Africa. Do you really think the dour Prokofiev is setting those places alight? I can't see it, myself. Thoughts anyone?
Fanfare for the Common Man! LMFAO - its used by every little team in the pub leagues. Get a grip Cutey! I can't think of anything better than Prokofiev. It may be a bit slow starting but it makes the hair on the back of my neck rise. But I think it would be great to have some african rythms as well. My vote is for Elias and his Zig Zag Flutes have a listen mackems http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFi-LzNa0rg
charliehurleys - you might be right, in which case 'Fanfare' would be inappropriate. But I still think Prokofiev is too dour and ponderous for the image we're trying to sell to the world. This club needs something more upbeat now.
Cutey. I agree Proko is not exactly a good sing-along tune. I just love walking up the stairs onto the south stand as its booming out and then seeing 40,000 mackems ready for the emotional roller-coaster that is about to begin. Pure theatre! Mind if we get a place in Europe they can play the theme tune to the telly tubbies if they like - I'll be too busy having an orgasm to listen to the music
