Anybody heard any news on him recently? He seems to have been forgotten about but he's still registered as a Charlton player. This time last year his name was mentioned by Parky but since then there's been nothing.

For those of you who don't know, Serge Deble was one of a handful of Ivorian players signed through our partnership with the Asec Mimosas academy in Africa. He was signed by us, and then due to work permit reasons he was loaned to Angers SCO in France, and then FC Nantes. Yet unless I'm mistaken, the time has now arrived in which he can obtain a work permit and play for us in England.

Apologies for the double post but this may make for some interesting reading. (This is according to wikipedia so may not be entirely accurate). This is some info on the other four Ivorians we signed at the time:

Ismaël Béko Fofana - apparently still registered with us.
Konan Serge Kouadio - playing for AFAD Djékanou
Bakary Soro - playing for French Ligue 1 club Arles Avignon
Zoro Cyriac Gohi Bi - playing for top Belgian side Standard Liege

Haha DVD, I've given up all hope of seeing him in a Charlton shirt to be honest. It would just be nice to hear a bit of news on him from the club.

Haha I see your one of the 'glass half-empty folk'. Can't blame you, the club haven't given us great reason for being optimistic in recent years. Personally I'm still hopefully of seeing Youga return, and would love to see these Ivorians play for us, but won't be too fussed I guess if they don't.

I believe they signed in 2008 on 4 year deals but I may be wrong. I'll have to look it up.

you could be right WWOCB I just assumed that all the overseas partnerships ended co-inciding with our relegation from the Premier League and natural need to cut costs

Wasn't there a suggestion at some point last year that someone was sniffing around in a very meaningful way and that we'd be in for a windfall of around £1m when he was finally sold?

Sure there was a long thread on this.

Thought it was Wigan but may be wrong. You're right thought Tewks, it was discussed extensively on 606 last year.

Tbh most of these partnerships we're nonsense, what did we ever get out of our partnership with Valencia? The chinese club who we got Zheng Zhi from and more recently the one with Liverpool.

Just checked online, it was Wigan and Blackburn who were after him apparantly. Not sure why to be honest, according to wikipedia he's only scored 3 league goals in the past 3 or so years.

Speaking to some people over the weekend, we don't even ask for a loan fee when sending him out :emoticon-0112-wonde

well I guess as he can't play in the uk it's in our interests for him to play ... outside of the uk in order to eventually get a permit

.... which means that whoever is trying to loan him holds all the cards

So does that mean we're still paying their wages? Pretty sure they must be fairly high considering when we signed them. Did you hear any more about them Super?

Literally nothing more- asked purely because of this thread as I too forgot about him.

DVDDD summed it up that because we need him to get games we are more than thankful for him to go out. The club had hoped to sell him like the other players (or to get him off the books I should say) but for whatever reason it never happened and we then found ourselves with him only needing another season out on loan and/or to play for Senegal in a % of games during the calender year. I assume the loan club will be paying the wages, but don't know.

Another assumption (dangerous, I know) is that he will be gone this summer. With new owners I think they will perhaps be in more of a position to give him a small pay off that perhaps we weren't able to do in the past. We did it with Moo2 and Mcleod in the past, but I guess they would have been on a bigger wage, hence more urgency needed in getting them off the books.

Hmm I'm hopefully we could give him a go before selling him off/releasing him. He can't be the worst if Blackburn and Wigan were after him this time last year. Also I think his contract may be coming to an end this summer? If that's the case then we won't have to pay him off, though it may be next Summer his contract runs out.

No idea- I would also liked to have seen him, even if it were in a pre-season game. Curiosity is definitely high when it comes to high.

There has never been any information readily available about him, so it is very tough to discuss contract length. It came across that certain people employed by CAFC over the years didn't know much about him, which is strange. Or maybe they were just keeping the cards close to their chests? Who knows.
