Is any one else getting a bit worried by the fact Semedo hasnt re-signed yet? Il admit, when i first heard he was possibly on the move i laughed it off, after all he did say he'd sign for life if he got offered the contract. He isnt the best midfielder weve ever had but i like the fact he always seems commited to the team and clearly is passionate about the game.
His attitude reminds me of The Herminator, and i think weve missed that fearless attitude in players that we dont seem to have anymore. Anytime we concede in the last 3 seasons everyone lets their heads drop and start sulking. Wether he is staying or not surely the board can at least give us an indication?
This season it seems that we will either sign a lot of quality or a little of rubbish, too many names floating about and im not too sure if im excited or worried <confused>

Quite agree Jimmy, of those out of contract the three I would want to keep are -

    1) Semedo
    2) Racon
    3) Dailly (squad player/coach)

Anyinsah on a pay as you play deal would be another option.

    Honestly Jimmy... Not one bit.

There's been plenty of threads on the Semedo issue and i think I've more than made my feelings on the issue clear. In a nut shell:

Offer Semedo a new contract as a CM...... No

Offer Semedo a new contract as a CB...... YES

Semedo's Played under...3 managers?Pardew,Parkinson and now Sir Chris.None of these managers have deployed Semedo in a central defensive position...unless as a last resort...what does that tell ya? Personally i'd of thought he could do a good job there,After all that's his natural position..Apparently.Defensively we were suspect last season, particularly down the middle..Yet he still wasn't used there..The Doc was Dailly's partner..Or Forch. Why's that? I don't know.

    Inept management possibly Bob...?

When he came to us he was a RB. Then for whatever reason he ended up playing CM. For me his use of the ball is simply not good enough. Ok, i accept he is pretty useful at breaking up play.

However, there are players in this league who are equally adept at putting their foot in whilst being confident and able in possession. Parett could do both...

Imo all the raw materials that make a quality CB at league one level are there in abundance in Semedo. He's a big, strong, commanding presence who sees danger, is good in the air, loves a tackle and has a decent turn of pace... All attributes the best defender I've ever seen in a Charlton shirt possessed... Richard Rufus. What more could you ask for in a CB?

If he signs I won't be doing backflips of excitement. If he leaves, I won't shed a tear.

Thanks for the service- always special when a player strikes up a bond with the fans, but I just think it's time to start afresh and build a new squad. Hopefully one that doesn't have the smell of failure surrounding it.

I agree his passing isnt exactly amazing, but i think the reason we have played him in that position is probably the fact we seemed to use him as a direct replacement for matt holland. Pardew and Parky are poor managers anyway, but after playing that length of time in that position its no wonder Powell has played him there as well. I think him at centre back with someone like matt fry would have been quality, hes got leadership qualities which we need and would help a younger player progress in my opinion. Hopefully if we keep hold of Semedo and sign Frimpong we will have a good solid centre back and a good passing midfielder, two birds one stone, hope we get it done.

Makelele wasn't great on the ball, but was the best at the Semeo job in my generation. You don't have to be a Messi to be a great player.

Behave yourself Doc... You don't play for Real Madrid, Chelsea and France winning titles and World Cups along the way, whilst being referred to as the most important player in the team by the best all round player I've ever seen (Zidane) if you can't play...!

Essien, Dechamps, Viera, Busquets, Dunga, Keane, Desailly... all quality players who were/are equally comfortable at putting their foot in as they were/are in possession.

Jimmy named Matt Holland... top shout Imo. Great in possession and great at putting his foot in. I'm not asking for Messi combined with Makalale just someone like Holland/Parrett/Bailey who are equally capable at doing both.

Imo Semedo at CM has massively hindered our progress. After all, what have we achieved with him at the heart of our midfield... relegation and the wastelands of League One that's what!

Makelele wasn't great on the ball? If you call not being able to lose possession through strength and then capable to play a pass not great on the ball, then ok.

Journo on SLP says it is highly unlikely that either Racon or Semedo will resign

Resign or re-sign? The difference is crucial!

So many players have to leave in my opinion and Semedo, Racon, Fortune and Doherty fall into that bracket. They have achieved nothing of any great shakes and we must rebuild under Powell. Besides, that would free up a great deal of wages for the restructuring process to begin.

i would certainly like to see us sign Danny Kedwell from AFC Wimbledon if we are lowering our sights to a couple of non-league signings.

I think he was a better player than many people give him credit for.

He could before to specialise in the spoiling aspect of his game because he's had the luxury of playing with the best players on the planet...

Unfortunately the same can't be said for Semedo. Which is why we need CM's who are equally capable at breaking up play and using the ball well when in possession.

I think in all honesty if Semedo hasnt signed in the next two days we should tell him to do one, all this is surely causing problems in the squad. Im anxious enough to find out whats going on but to be sat there not knowing who you will be playing with must be a bit of a pain in the palarse. If Semedo and Racon dont want to sign, they know where the door is. What we need is players who want to play for this club, and will go out there and play with passion. Oh how we miss players with the mentality of a John Robinson or Graham Stuart.

    Hello Jimmy the Addick

I am a newbie as well and had to ask how to get a picture up. So go to 'notifications' at the top and then on the new page you will need to scroll down to 'change avatar'. You can then upload a picture or get one of the internet. It is easy when you know how.........!

Robinson or Stuart would be great, but I would plump for a midfield duo of Keith Jones and Paul Mortimer!

Cheers Pond, been doing my swede in! I think we should get a detective to track down just where the hell Sir Clive has dissappeared to (heard he runs a pub in spain somewhere, dont know if thats at all true though) I reckon he could be a rather decent attacking coach, and he is probably still better than benson:tongue:
