Going to watch Plymouth v Sunderland on Saturday. Still get to the Bridge now and then, as Chelsea are my team. I wouldn't miss the Prem at all if we dropped out of it tbh, hate it sometimes.
Quite enjoy the image of thousands of mutants from Sunderland milling around the city for a day either side of the game. Some won’t be able to afford the trip home and will still be there in 40 years like those Celtic fans who never came back from Lisbon in 67.
What did they actually do? I must admit I never really looked in to it. As far as I was aware he moved Wimbledon to MK, which understandably pissed off a lot of Wimbledon fans, but then he relented and gave up claim to Wimbledon's history and treated it as a new club, so Wimbledon fans could start AFC Wimbledon, locally, and carry on that way. Did something more dirty happen then?
Well essentially it gave MK a Football League place at the expense of a historic club and even now it's still occupying that place. They basically bought themselves a FL place without having to start at the bottom like every other club.
I get ya. You believe it was his intention all along to **** the Wimbledon brand and re brand the club as an MK club as soon as it was out of London, as a short cut to get Milton Keynes a football team that was already high up in the league places, rather than starting in non league and working up..... When I put it like that, yeah, that was pretty ****ish But the next generation wont give a ****, like I said, Arsenal did a similar thing 100 years ago, and no one gives a ****.
Simple one for me this, I go to Swansea games and always have since I moved down there. When I first went down there (college) I maintained a United ST for a few years (shared it more or less with a mate when I couldn't go) and went to four of five Swans games at the Vetch. Great laugh, an absolute **** hole of a ground, all standing on the North bank and watching utterly dire fare on the pitch in the 4th or 3rd divisions. Started going to United less and less, mainly because the travel became a pain and they had fewer and fewer games that were actually 3 o clock on a Saturday. It was good getting straight off the train, meeting in town, then on to the match. When they became 12.00 on Saturday or 13.30 on a Sunday it pissed on those plans. Last few years my sons have become more interested in football so we got Swansea season tickets. This season is better than the last two. Championship football way more enjoyable than premier league. Not better quality but they at least try to win rather then try not to get relegated and they've got rid of all the high earling premier league players, it's easier to relate to and support local lads who've made it in the team than the likes of the Ayew's, who ****ed off as soon as Swansea were relegated and probably don't get that it was as much down to them as anyone else. ****s. I'm not even close to being as invested in Swansea as I still am in United though. I will always be United. Still planning a couple of games this season but probably not many more than that. My middle boy still wants to go, my eldest is 100% Swansea and nothing else. Got to say though, am really enjoying championship football. Even looking forward to when Rotherham roll into town. My boys's first away game next week too, at Bolton. Bolton away was my own first ever United game of any sort so I quite like that.
I've been to Plymouth lots of times, they are welcome to it.. It's a long ****ing haul from here. Expect to see some return about a week later.
For me a second team is a smaller, lower league team, which makes mine a touch tragic. I spent a couple of years living in Bournemouth when I was younger and went to a few games, so kinda followed how they were doing... Now they are sitting pretty in the Prem and QPR are, well not Bournemouth.
And gods willing, will never curse the PL with their presence ever again! Switch to Bournemouth, they are more than welcome
I had no idea that Hungerford Town had changed their name ... My second club is Spurs ... largely because I have a lot of mates who support them ... sometimes they are my third favourite club ... even when there are only two in the running
I watched Hungerford Town last night. Worst team to visit the Kingfield so far this season. Weston Super Mare are probably ****ter based on their no wins from 14 games record.
Only teams I have watched with any regularity are Bristol City and Bristol Rovers, and I'm talking maybe 2 or 3 times a season max. Most people I know who grew up in Bristol prefer one or the other, but have a "big" team they actually support. I only know a handful of proper City or Rovers fans. The only game I have been to involving either side when I was even slightly bothered about the result was the playoff final for City to get to the PL and they lost to Hull. That was mainly because I was at uni and had a housemate who was from Hull and I had a bet with him about it. Apart from that I have no attachment to either side really, want them to do well of course but not fussed if they don't. Saying that I now realise that I feel the same way about Saints really, I think I have grown out of football
